Does anyone know what type of transmission fluid a 82 dodge ram charger takes?
It has the 5.2 liter v8.
One of my co workers has this truck and recently droped the pan and refilled with dexron 3.
I thought it took atf+3. He says it shifts just a tad rougher. I dont want him to ruin his transmission!

I would use atf+3. It should would work just fine. It superseeds chysler ms-7176, atf+ and atf+2. Trying to get all the fluid out of the transmission is another subject.

Thanks!I know hes not going to get all the fluid out with a pan drop but still dont want him puting the wrong stuff in.

The dipstick should have it's type stamped in. My R/C is stamped DexronII so I use Dexron 3. If it's a 727 Chry transmission, it's not known to be a smooth shifter (especially shifting into reverse)!

Remember, it's a Ramcharger, not a Land Rover

P.S. Is the transmission original? If so, I would HIGHLY recommend an Auto-RX treatment in the transmission to clean all the years of crap out of it!

[Edited for P.S.]

I always like the Ram Chargers once you fixed the play in the steering shaft they were GREAT! I always wished they would import the ones the sell in Mexico based on the modern full size Dodge Ram! Take car of it they are sharp in good condition!

He says it was rebuilt about 2 years ago. Hes probably put a max of 15k on it since the rebuild.
