Jefferson Starship with Mickey Thomas, Grace Slick and Father Guido Suducci in the most over the top production of the decade. I think this was shortly before MT was beat senseless in a bar fight by his drummer (who's now playing with Jefferson Starship, not to be confused with Mickey Thomas's Starship.) Mickey's new drummer weighs in at about 300 pounds and is probably there to protect him in case the original drum-beater is in the neighborhood.)

One of the first mainstream videos that tried to tell a story, "Ashes To Ashes" by Bowie...

British one hit wonder from the early '80s, Icicle Works with "Whisper To A Scream"...

Norwegian one hit wonder from the mid '80s with a video that was groundbreaking in terms of concept and production values, A-Ha with "Take On Me"...

Close to zero budget video that was wildly popular, Van Halen's "Panama"...

Eye Candy video from Van Halen, "Hot For Teacher"...

Quiet, thoughtful video by Springsteen for "I'm On Fire"...

!989, Cher, "If I Could Turn Back Time".

Edit: I had in mind sexy female vocalists/bands.

There was some controversy at the time about the Navy providing Cher a stage on which to stroll around with her hiney hanging out...seemed like the sailors loved it.

Since you asked for women...wasn't a big Madonna fan, but I think this was one of her best songs and a good video, despite relying too much on movie scenes. "Live To Tell"...

Totally obscure video from a female band, Charlotte Caffrey had been in the Go-Gos and Meredith Brooks later had a hit with a song whose title would get filtered out here (think beeyotch). The Graces with "Lay Down Your Arms"...

I thought The Bangles were looking pretty darned nice in this video, "Be With You" from 1988...

This was 77. Close enough to 80's?

The Cars, "You Might Think" from '84

I thought the gal in this was Paulina Porizkova when I first saw it ages ago, but it's an actress named Susan Gallagher.
Paulina married Ric Ocasek (aka Skeletor aka Keith Richards II) and simultaneously broke the hearts of and totally confused millions of men.

I too remember that controversy about Cher and the Navy. If ever there was a phallic symbolism, this video had it. Pause the video and check out the optical illusion at 1:57 - 1:58.

Agree on Madonna's "Live To Tell" video; very compelling. IMO, Madonna was one of the most talented musicians ever. She wrote all her own music, she choreographed and directed her videos, and she was one heck of a business person. She ran her "franchise" better than anyone else at the time - male or female.
