CONCLUSION...
8. The most important lubricating oil component for deposit formation is the base oil. Increasing the high molecular weight and low volatility content of the oil increases deposit formation.
9. The fuel treated with additives blended at an IVD control dosage produces more CCD than the base fuel alone.
10. The use of modern deposit control additives is critical to protect engines against both the intake valves and combustion chambers deposits.

Very different take on the subject.

Is he saying that low Noack is bad for DI? Or is he saying that high Noack is bad? This sentence is confusing, and I've got a feeling something got lost in translation here.

Also, I did a quick scan of the paper and did not see any place that would actually allow him to come to this conclusion. Maybe I missed it.

I read it twice and feel just as confused. The translation being the fly in the ointment.
 
That's the same as saying that a Dexos1 syn blens makes more CCD than a SL dino? Because it has low volatility and higher molecular weight?
Nah, I think the author was referinng to VIIs and AW additivated oils (multifunctional additives - since ZDDP are metal surfactants and btw detergents and some VII's act as dispersants too), since they make more Molecular Weight and reduce volatily results, while isn't sheared.
