In the motor oil section, the common recommendation seems to be a good, non-syn GL-4 in the trans and a syn GL-5 in the rear diff.

The manual calls for Castrol Hypoy 80 in the trans and Hypoy 90 in the rear diff.

What would you do?

I've been running 85W-90 GL-5 in both the rear end and transmission. The 1500 gearboxes don't have the brass synchros like the older ones, so it should be fine with GL-5.

Modern gear lubes were not invented when that car's specs were laid out.
A dedicated manual trans lube is almost certainly best for the trans. Try Redline or Amsoil.
