Dealer parts are dollars, in almost all cases. There's a reason its called the stealership.

Big disappointment. I'm not going to bash brands here because I've had unsatisfactory experiences with both Honda and Lexus on seatbelt replacements, which I thought were generally considered to be lifetime replacement parts, no-questions-asked due to liability issues.

I'd be interested in what else is excluded from what I assume is still your 3/36 basic warranty. I've never heard of "trim" being excluded from a basic warranty before. Does it say that in your warranty handbook?

Big city dealer. It probably was under warranty and they just wanted to make a quick $72.

3/36 will be up in a week. Glad all of the issues are resolved for now.

ME TOO!

Arts and crafts store too would have been cheaper for something that would have matched and served the same purpose.

Dealerships are getting rude in pricing nowadays, or I'm just getting old and cheap.....

That is too bad. One wonderful thing that Honda & Subaru offer is lifetime warranty on seatbelts.

At least you had the ability to locate at junkyard.

If the Honda $stealership tries to screw you on the free safety belt replacements and the car has NOT been in an accident, but the belts are still failing in some way, then you should call Honda Corporate and open a case.

I have a 94 Accord and the driver's side shoulder belt is not retracting anymore but because of my COMPLETE distrust for the local Honda dealer here in the upstate of SC I refuse to go NEAR that place for ANYTHING at all.

I needed the same part on my truck back in June. Same price.

I got the Dorman one for $6 from the Help! section. It has worked well.

Did yours just fall off? Mine got smashed in the door, which is probably usually how it happens and why Ford won't replace it under the warranty.

As a part of a Federally-mandated Vehicular Safety System I would think it would/should be covered under that aspect of the original warranty...

Was NHTSA advised?

Ford did something similar on my 1987 Scorpio. It used a rubber coupling between the transmission and the driveshaft, just like on a BMW. However, unlike BMW, in the US Ford did not sell the coupling separately. If it failed they would only sell you the entire driveshaft assembly. Fortunately a few US shops did have the coupling, having obtained it from Ford of Europe- which sold the individual part.

If it was covered under warranty it would have to go through service, parts dept cannot do a warranty repair or provide parts for a warranty repair OTC. If there was any doubt, the service dept would submit pictures to Ford and let Corporate make the decision. They could decide it was customer damaged and decline to cover it due to abuse.

Also this part is a convenience part, not a safety component so it wouldn't be considered a failed safety item.
