Oh I don't have quarts, I have jugs except for 2 actual quarts. I was just comparing how many "quarts" I have.

You stock up, or just buy as you need? Because you know, if you aren't stashing massive amounts of sale oil, you aren't a real BITOG'er! (BTW, I don't have a stash of oil myself. No point with one small car in a condo!)

:P

I HAD 15L of it, only have 5L left. I'm going to go buy more shortly. The fact that as of CJ-4, it and Delvac 1 are not the same anymore kind of scares me

Search around a few stores, and you might find more CI-4/SL stuff. Buy what you can. Next step would be to see if a bulk dealer has older Delvac 1 in stock....you'll probably find enough to keep you going for a bit.

That's the plan!

If I found a store with Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w40, that had CI-4+ and CJ-4 formulas side-by-side, I'd probably choose the CI-4+.

But I won't travel out of my way to get the older stuff. Either one will take my TDI engine as far it can reasonably go.

I am amused that so many have just discovered Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck -- it seems like the new "miracle oil", taking the place of Castrol "GC" 0w30 which was all the rage a year or two ago.

It is getting easier to get, that's why its becoming more popular.

Before Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5-litre jugs started showing up at Walmart, only place I had seen it was 4-litre Delvac 1 jugs at a speed shop, and even they only had 2.

Agreed. None of the parts stores up here stock it save Walmart.

I found some Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck at a Walmart and bought all 3 jugs, but the other Walmarts that are local to me don't carry it or are always out of it.

Hi,
OVERK1LL - Sure looks good - just like my Porsche engines on this lubricant have done for years. I always do a "blotter" test every couple of months - it helps to detect fuel dilution etc.

Thank you Doug!

Yes, I'm VERY happy with this oil. Thank you again for your recommendation and wisdom. It is always appreciated.

I'm very interested. What is the blotter test? Something to do with fuel?

It's a bit cleaner than the GC, that I shouldn't be using in my Town Car, looks at the same mileage. It might just be the flash. This could be the next oil that I shouldn't put into my car. Of course in a couple hundred thousand miles, I may regret not using the oil spec'd for it. Especially when you factor the extra twenty dollars in fuel costs, into the equation, over the life of the vehicle.

According to the Heisenberg uncertainty principle wear declines as viscosity increases. Yet simultaneously, nobody in the United States knows why the Europeans prefer thicker motor oil formulations.

Hi,
tig1 - The blotter test is carried out by simply dropping a single larger drop onto a known absorbent "blotter" - I use non treated thick tissue (a treated blotter is best)

With experience, the resultant spread and colouration tells the story. Try it with new oil and work from there

This test is an old one and is still quite common with diesel equipment as a "field test - I have used it for nearly 50 years!

Art - Love the comments!

Doug,
Where does the fuel show up and what does it look like on the tissue? I'm going to try this tomorrow.

Hi,
tig1 - The "spread" will be much wider (and perhaps) lighter than new oil if fuel is present

With experience the resultant "rings" and colouration(s) can also tell if glycol and etc is present

It is a good tool to ascertain soot levels (reasonably) in diesel engine lubricant

I should have noted that the oil in the picture has 7,800Km on it (I've done a bit of driving since I started this thread).
