Restomod truck, original tires 7.75-15 bias Mfg psi 24 cold 30 hot, replaced with 255/60r17, Toyo Open Country QT, radial. What do you suggest tire psi with new wheel tire combo ?

According to Toyo's website, you could go all the way up to 51 psi on that tire, in that size.

Made list for that tire, using 90% of the loadcapacity for 99mph for the pressure. And axleload given, so you dont need to go adding reserve and deviding by 2 yourselves. So yust search acurate determined axleloads in the list and use pressure behind it.
Succes with that, the most tricky part in it all.

This gives maximum reserve with still acceptable comfort and grip.
51psi is the maximum allowed cold pressure, the referencepressure for a Standard Load( SL) tire is 36 or 35psi
255/60R17 LI 106V
Maxload 2094lbs upto 99mph AT 36psi.
If you want it for higher speed, give that, and I will make list for that.

According to Tire Guides, a 1971 C10 4X2 with 7.00-15 had an inflation pressure of 32/32 psi. The book doesn't go back to 1966.

So are you sure about the original tire size and inflation pressures?

Let's do it both ways:

7.00-15 at 32 psi = 1240#

7.75-15 at 24 psi = 1270#

In order to carry the same load, a 255/60R17 needs .... well, it doesn't go that low. The lowest value is 1775# at 26 psi.

I am of the opinion that if the load table only goes down to 26 psi, that is the lowest pressure anyone ought to use.

There is a school of thought that says to match the inflation pressure so that you get about the same spring rate.

So there are the facts as I know them.
