Friend of mines dad recently passed and she inherited his boat with a 2014 60 Merc 4 stroke. Besides changing the cover because it has damage from Hurricane Ida, Im going to pump out the old fuel and service the engine. Those of you with the newer Merc 4 strokes, which oil are you running? It calls for 10W30 or 25W40, Im assuming Yamalube 20W40 or either Quicksilver 25W40 will suffice. Although Im not a fan of Lucas oils, Lucas 25W40 Marine is available at Wal Mart and its FC-W rated so it should be fine. I like to stick to FC-W rated oils in outboards. Ill change the plugs, both fuel filters and the lower unit oil. Should I use an 80W90 or SAE 90? Thanks guys.

I had a 2011 60 merc for a few years and ran 15w-40 Chevron Delo and ecstar(Suzuki) SAE 90 gear lube (Free Oil) . I don’t think these engines are picky on oils; just change them often - 100 hrs or less. Since your Walmart shopping and southern go with quicksilver 25w-40, High performance sae 90 gear lube and use only Merc/QS parts.

Had a couple of these engines, ran them for years next door in Delacroix.

Ran Delvac 15/40 or Rotella 15/40 with fram XG7317 filters. Change the oil once a year, about 40 hrs. Have gone to the Fram FE7317 with the problems lately with the XG. Might try a Purolator PBL14610.

75W90(mostly Yamaha brand)Marine lower unit oil changed once a year with the engine service.
