60,000 Mile Detroit Silver 4-53T Update Good And Bad

Veg oil? Fresh or used? If used oil how to filter it good.
It's used oil I collect from 3 restaurants. To filter the oil I use an up flow filtering/settling method, basically all the heavy particles fall out and the clean oil is collected off the tip of the 55 gallon drums. It goes through three 55 gallon drums, then into a 320 gallon tank. From the 320 gallon it's filtered through a 25, 10, and 2um filter as I fill the truck.

Any links for where to get the filters?

If it was to do a runaway and if you don't have the air flapper, do you think the jakes could shut it down? May need a special by pass switch?

I think it’ll be fine. Unless it develops an oil seal leak in the turbo those ole 2 strokes ran forever. I still love that distinct sound of a Detroit Diesel. A few videos on YouTube of guys purposefully pinning the fuel mechanism so they run away. They take a while to expire.

Just my $0.02

The filters don't have to be fancy, for the 25um, it's just a standard hydraulic filter. The 10um is a GoldenRod filter and for the 2um is a Cat filter. I'll have a look tomorrow at the shop for the numbers. AS for runaways I run a safety/Spring rack which pretty much eliminates the chance of a runaway due to a stuck injectors/rack. The Jakes will stop a runaway and give you time to block the intake.
