Ran this Microguard 3614 ecore since last December. 10w30 Peak brand, my winter and bad weather daily driver, started in -20 degree mornings. Never bought in to the ecore or ocod nonsense. Ran ecores on this engine until I tried 2 purolator classics. Both Puros had start up noise after only a few months. This one ran flawlessly for 6 mos. Ecore lovers and haters enjoy. The filter was free with some Chevron I bought for my other car. Pics fresh from the cam:

Last pic is my latest change. The Microguard is now a Wix made one. This engine is a 1986 turbo, never seen synthetic. The engine and turbo outlast everything else. The Smittys is the first semi-synth I ever bought. It was $8.75 at Big K-mart a few month ago. I always use the cheap stuff on this car.

I don't know the exact mileage on this oc, but I would guess 5k. I drive it to work and back and in bad weather. The speedometer works but the odometer skips. I had to replace the original about 10 years ago with a bone-yard unit. They have plastic inside that gets brittle over the years.

NAPA in my area sells that Smittys. They had it $2 a quart in the clearance bin last I looked.

Finding cheap oil is fun...

I've used them under the SuperTech, Microguard and STP labels. While I never had a problem with them, I no longer search them out. If included free on a great oil deal, I'd still use one, but it's be a a daily-driver, not a car that would spin at high RPM or on an engine that would put a big demand on an oil filter. They normally have quite a few pleats.
The fact that WalMart and ACDelco still use them tells me that they get the job done.

That exact filter painted yellow is Kohlers latest and greatest top of the line oem filter for there 20+hp pro series v-twins...comes on new engines as original equipment....I dont have a problem with them..

Lancer turbo, rare car.Serviceability of the 2.2/2.5 engines put todays engines to shame.Long live the K car and its engine!

The pleats are nice and straight and have close even spacing.
The media looks to be perfectly intact.
As much as I disdain ecores, this one looks really good.

Congrats on your 6 month anecdotal result and considering the ecore was 'free', hard to argue with the return on investment here. This one appears to have relatively tight pleating.

Otoh, there is a now classic ecore thread below* which shows why many prefer not to use an ecore as their first or any choice. And imo the results shown are far worse than the tears the dedicated Purohaters focus on. And it is also why more than one poster here refers them as e-scrap and other less than complimentary names.

And it should also be noted that O'Reilly dumped the rebranded MG ecore line in favor of the current Wix made MG line after only a very short period of time.

Thanks for the pics.

Interesting to see that the SuperS Multi-Flow 10w30 is now a semi-syn. Last time I noticed it in the local Auto Value, is was still a conventional.

I have ran an ecore many times without issue. Better filters out there, probably, but i would use them again if needed.

My neighbors son is not very keen on keeping his vehicle maintained... 2010 Ford Edge with the 3.5 V6 - he recently changed his oil after 1 yr and 4 months ,mileage unknown... it had a Jiffy lube Ecore on it.. I opened it up... and found no issues with it.. no tears and good pleat spacing.. I threw it away a few weeks ago.. i should have taken pics. He replaced it with a PH3600 Fram Extra Guard... we'll see how this goes , a year and a half from now.

I'm no fan of ecores but that one looks great.

Unlike Puro's, they are a host of failed engine stories to be found due to ecores blowing failed media into the engine. It actually happened to a co-worker of mine, Champ did give him a new engine without hassle however.

With so many other filters available I have no idea why anyone would knowingly choose an ecore but to each his own.

I've been running STP (E Cores) on my '86 Ram, the last few oil changes.
No trouble, and I will cut open this last filter in a couple weeks to show the results.

My dad has put a couple (E Cores) on his Chevrolet Colorado and will occasionally get low oil light, when the oil is just changed, and when the oil level is fine. That never happens with any other brand filter.

I'm planning on going back to Fram, as E-Cores are climbing higher where I live.

The Dodge cars from the 80's are growing on me, would love to find a turbo Shelby Charger to restore next.
