I have tried 0w20 and 5w20 early in the life of my escape when it had 30k on it. I change each out at 1000 miles due to the engine being much louder when warm, sounded fine cold. When i towed with it i ran 5w40 rotella and 0w30 m1 in the winter. I am going to run the 0w30 all year now. The 0w30 has been the quietest smoothest oil i've run in it. I've run the 30 and 40 wt oils for the last 100k in it and it runs great. Btw i had no difference in fuel mileage with any of the oils.

Yes the pacific northwest is ideal climate for running all kinds of viscosities. You can safely run really anything unless theres a bad winter over here. Which isnt too often. I can recall 2 weeks that were below 30F.

If or when the engine starts using oil which may never happen, then try a 30 grade oil. Honda tested their engines as did Ford, and they are confident in using 20 grade oils IN APPLICATIONS THAT 20 GRADE OIL IS SPECIFIED FOR.

why would you use 5w30 in the summer in an engine that calls for 5w20??

I will let everyone know when all the vehicles in Miami-Dade County drop dead on the side of the road using 5w20 where the temperatures are in the 90's at least 9 months a year and traffic is gridlocked daily.

Thanks for all the replies guys, as I shall stick with Super Tech 5W20 or Pennzoil conventional; whichever I feel like.

I love Oil Debates.
I used to live in Carrolltown, with was North of Ebensburg, which was North of Johnstiown. I used to drive Coal truck(Triaxle) and hauled alot of coal thru Punxty. I forget how massive the hills are whenb i go back. Ive been in Florida for about 9 years and my wife will never go back, she says. It is Beautiful down here just about all year.
Hey panzerman, and I hear you on the warmth of FL. I was in Panama City in 05' and nice area/state. I was to Cape Caneveral when I was young to see the space shuttle and other stuff. Yeah its hilly and mountainous up there.
