Yep my Mazda's warranty is up and I'm moving on to 5W-30 for winters and 0W-40 summer. Using up the stash now that I'm 81.

It doesn't get cold enough in WA to make a difference. Most people in the continental US can ignore the "W" part of oil viscosity.A higher winter rating for winter and a lower winter rating for summer?
I live in Washington. We see single digits at times and some healthy northeastern winds in the winter and have never worried about the oil in our cars. However my 96 7.3 Powerstoke, now she is a different animal and is not happy at all without being plugged in and/or a 5 winter rating oil in the winter! It doesn't get cold enough in WA to make a difference. I'll speak for myself. When I walk thru the garage and see 6 jugs of Mobil1 ESP 0W-30 oil on the shelf I know I have 6 jugs for all cars. Not 2 jugs for the Diesel, none for the Ford, and 4 for the Malibu & Trax. Nothing more aggravating than to pull the drain plug on a car and then find that you don't have any oil for it.I don't see the obsession folks have with needing to use one oil for everything unless you felt the one grade was "best" for all of your applications.
IF you feel Mobil ESP 0-30 is a great choice without compromising for all of your vehicles then that's winning and the way to go.I'll speak for myself. Simplifying stock on hand calms OCD, saves money and can divert disaster on a Sunday night after stores have closed.
why esp over fs 0w40?I'd be more apt to recommend Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 for everything over the 0W-40
I never have that issue because as soon as I use up a jug of oil I grab another one the next time it’s on sale and sometimes I’ll grab another as well. I’ll never be caught without the right oil on hand and with a lot of people here having a big stash I think most are going to have what they need on hand at all times.I'll speak for myself. I would stock Valvoline Restore and Protect in 5W-20 and 5W-30 and call it good. Having 2 grades in the same line, I wouldn't feel bad about throwing a quart of the 5W-20 in with the 5W-30 or vice versa if I didn't have enough for a complete oil change in a particular grade or for topping off as needed.
It’s at least twice as manageable.I don’t see how having one viscosity makes it any more manageable than having two viscosities on hand, unless you only have space to store one jug at a time. I live in a small condo with not very much storage space and I still usually have 4 or 5 jugs of oil on hand, of two different viscosities
A year’s worth? That not even close to pathological. You need to have an amount that is in excess of what the car’s remaining expected lifetime is.I have been suffering OilChangeDelution or Dementia?for many years. What does it mean? Symptoms? Well mine simply mean that I always have enough oil and filters on hand for about a years worth for each vehicle we own. Just something I started doing years ago.

It's just as available and at a similar price point as the Full SAPS stuff and arguably a better more modern formulation, and in terms of viscosity, I pretty much view all the off the shelf Xw30 and Xw40 C3 and A3/B4 oils to be all about the same the 40s are usually just over the edge of 30 and the 30s are right on the edge of being 40 and they all have to have a HTHS viscosity above 3.5 .why esp over fs 0w40?
Can I run 5W30 in my 13' CRV with the K-24 ? Has 615k on just 0W20 it's whole life....Trying to go thru my stash of 5qt jugs, and see which I have more of. The stash will last years. There all full synthetic name brand oils. Eventually want to run VRP 5w30 across the board for the 03' / 06/ 13/ Toyota's and the 1 Honda . All 4 bangers. Temps from 15-95 degrees,,a few colder snaps here and there in NY. It will make my shelf much easier to just grab the same jug, and not go searching for different weights. Any help would be appreciated![]()
