5w-30 compared by LSJr - NAPA, Amsoil, RP, ST

I’m sorry but vids like this are why I’m so torn about this guy. So much left out here to make these claims. This is 100% clickbait. The interwebs are screaming Napa oil is the best because Lake said so….
I don't think that at all. however dollars for donuts its a darn good oil and when it goes on sale its very hard to beat you're getting re-bottled Valvoline at a discount. I can't be mad that the NAPA (Valvoline) holds its own especially thrown up against the boutiques, what fascinates me is how generic the Highline Warren additive package is. Doesn't matter if its Super Tech, Kirkland Signature or Amazon Basics maybe even Mag 1 you're still getting the same bland additive pack. I guess it works and for those that don't know wont care to know either.

I have nothing against Napa oil. Used it for years. In most vehicles you’ll never have a problem.

My problem is Lake trying to say Tri Athlete A is just as good as Tri Athlete B because in one swim they tied. No mention of the bike or run results.

But the issue is how it "holds up". It might be darn good oil in some respects.

Every video I watch of him I agree with most of what he's doing but there are things I think he either glosses over or I think he should address.

And asserts that it can be used in that manner for conclusiveness. Even better.
It's a very valuable tool but you also need someone that can properly interpret them.

Can you give an example of how the Trackside Lab has been critical to a Grand Prix weekend?

During FP3 at the Chinese Grand Prix in 2018, one of our cars was hit with a mechanical failure. The Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team needed to characterise the nature of the problem as soon as possible to fix it before Qualifying. An oil analysis I conducted highlighted an increase of two metal wear elements sharing the same characteristics of the turbocharger metallurgy. These Lab results allowed Aston Martin Red Bull Racing to identify the issue in a timely manner and we managed to qualify for the race just in time. On Sunday we won the race.

not my only oil of choice, I buy the best price I can find however I have used it in my own and family vehicles since 2017 never one oil related issue. its been mentioned here countless times, lack of oil maintenance will be failure before the oil itself. I have run 5,000-7,500 mile oci's on NAPA and my sister is good for 10,000 oci's.

I drained napa out of my subaru with a cold engine after a winter OCI... and it looked like black water.. havent used it again.
This was on a port injected fb25.

The for and against LSJr around here seems to fall along the lines if he confirms or upsets people's confirmation bias.

He is not perfect but who is? I do not see anybody here filling that social media gap when it comes to oils and being all things to all people in the community.

2 quarts- I wish he had done 1 quart

Plus it was a stroker with shallow pan

So nothing definitive or shocking
Exactly, it’s not comparable to putting an extra quart in a V8 engine with a normal oil pan. I used to run an extra quart in my 98 Corvette and I know it didn’t lose any power because I ran that car at the drag strip a lot and didn’t lose any time and that car ran very consistent (and very quick for such few modifications too)
