I use the Amsoil 0w30 spec for 5w-20. I haven't used the Amsoil 5w-20 but after 10,500 miles(110,800 miles) with the TSO, oil is remarkably clean. This is my 4th run with the TSO. The reason I like the Amsoil 0w30 over the Amsoil 5w30 which I had used prior is I did experience MPG gain which actually cost less in it's usage. Also the TSO is very shear stable as I've tested on a mountain uphill climb, the oil doesn't miss a beat. I was impressed! I also experienced a cooler running engine, the TSO takes a beating and keeps the engine from heating...it just refused to heat up!
That was my experience comparing the two oils, the Amsoil 5w30 and the Amsoil 0w-30. Performance wise the Amsoil 0w30 just takes the oil on a different level. I don't mind paying the extra...in fact for my application the TSO cost less, it's more shear stable, keeps my engine cooler and start up is the best I've experienced, the oil just flows so quickly.
Engine had seen nothing but Amsoil from 1K miles. I do yearly OCI 12-13,000 miles. For my application, the Amsoil 0w30 had a higher performance over the Amsoil 5w30.
