I have a ford focus car, engine is Duratec HE 1.8L, owner manual recommends using 10w30, but new ford cars are using 5W-20,
can I use 5W-20 instead ?

Either will probably work, depending on your location the climate might favor a 10w30 more and it may be easier to obtain than 5W-20 there.

Is your Focus a newer model or older, and how many km does it have? A 10w30 also may be more suited to an engine with some wear (80,000 km or more on it) than the thinner 5W-20.

I really don't know much about cars or oil on the Chinese market, other than what Sinopec makes and that Shanghai GM sells a ton of Buicks there.

It is a newer model, and it only has 14,000 km, I have just found 5W-20 on market, so I am thinking if I can use it now.

I think that 5W-20 would be fine in that engine as Ford reccomends it in most of Europe/North America for the same engine family.

I think in China they specified 10w30 because it would be the most readily available.

What brands of 5W-20 can you get there and what specifications (API or ACEA) does it meet?

I looked at the Sinopec website (only Chinese oil company I know) and they do not list a 5W-20 product, just API SL rated 5w30 and 10w30.

Mobil 1 5W-20 will do very well in that engine, I think. What brands of oil are commonly available in China and what are the prices like?

We have a few posters from China here.
