So a friend asked me to do an oil change on his Echo today.
Said he had some oil and a filter. So I get there and he has one of the good Toyota filters in the white box. (back from when he had his Tercel), a case of Esso UniFlo 10w30 SL, and 2 cases of Mobil Drive Clean 10w30. He wanted me to use the Esso since the box was already opened. So I proceeded to change the oil, but I made sure to shake the oil bottles really well incase any of the additives came out of suspension. Do you guys think it will be ok ? I'm not too worried, but I thought I'd share.
The car is a 2000 Toyota Echo, with 119k.

Lets hear your thoughts,
Justin

I would not be concerned that the oil is 5 years old BUT I wouldn't use 10w30 in January in New Hampshire (COLD) in a car spec'd for 5w30.

I tried to talk him into 5w30, but he wanted to use up what he had. I don't think it will be too much of a problem, as the car lives in a heated garage.
