5 Quart Container leak

Odd issue here I have never seen discussed. One of my 5 quart containers randomly sprang a leak. It's a couple years old, not exactly ancient.

Anyone ever have a pinhole leak happen randomly?

Exactly where on the bottle? Bottles are petroleum based. Age may cause plastic to become brittle. If on the bottom, wearing out due to frequent movement.

Had a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 slowly
leak at the seam on my Corvette passenger floor. It made a mess of the mat and carpet and was only a few ounces. I didn’t drive that car much and bought oil and left it on the floor so could change it hot after the next time I drove it.

Recently ordered some jugs of valvoline ATF, some jugs came leaking from the cap even though they were unopened and still sealed

I have seen this in milk jugs, oil bottles, jugs of distilled water and antifreeze jugs. Doesn't happen very often to me but makes me go to some trouble to keep an eye on them. I think it is just a the nature of the material. The worst thing is a jug of milk you did not notice leaking in your car in August. It really gets ripe and is almost impossible to clean perfectly.

A few months ago an old 5-quart oil bottle in which I stored used oil sprung a leak in the bottom because I'd unadvertertently left it standing on the side of the square-edged cap on a tube of Superlube grease.
4-quart milk containers (same HDPE material as typical 5-qt oil) occasionally spring pinhole leaks after I've reused them repeatedly for water. So far, never a leak of original liquid contents from any HDPE container.

Oil no but bottles of Techron yes. That stuff is sticky as all get out once it's sat for a day if you don't notice it right away

Had an antifreeze leak from a plastic jug in the garage. The jugs were on a concrete floor and temps got down to about 35F.

Funny enough after examinining each jug I could not find the leak. All of those jugs are still sitting there and I have had no leaks again.

It's such a small leak, it must be on a seam. I think 2 might be leaking - because it keeps coming back. I finally dropped them in grocery bags and placed them on a tote lid. They also leaked on a cardboard box, that wicked up the oil. It's a mess. At least it's clean oil I guess.

I bought some oil cleanup at Walmart. Not sure what else to use. My wife will kill me if I spread kitty litter all over the garage and track it in the house.
