This is our service truck. It has about 120K miles but 11,700 engine hours with lots of idle time. It has been ratting bad for a while on cold start and had the typical phaser knock at idle. However no DTCs. Everything is original. This engine really has not had anything done except plugs. It’s now quiet as a church mouse. Changed chains, tensioners, guides, phasers, solenoids, crank gear and oil pump. It’s had royal purple it’s whole life (not my choice). Lots of varnish with some buildup. Enjoy.

I wasn’t impressed by the cleanliness. The underside of the valve covers and timing cover had lots of crap in them.

It’s 5K by the odometer, but that probably equates to at least 450-500 hours between services. I keep telling the powers that be to track the hours, but they don’t listen.

I quoted out one of these yesterday. When I went to look up the longblock (always give that option) it was on backorder with no date off 😐 🙄. Supposedly there is a cylinder head shortage for the reman engines. I think I had everything needed to do the timing job in stock. The phasers have been on and off backorder the past 2 years.

Wow, my 2009 5.4L is pushing 160K miles. I recently snaked a borescope inside and it looks like new. I use M1, 10W-30. No chain or phaser issues.

While I prob don't idle it as much as you, I do idle it quite a bit.

I'm very surprised at the Royal Purple results. Something seems off.

The truck does get driven very hard with mostly city driving. Lots of short trips, cold starts, idle time etc. several people drive this truck. This truck is a 2008 F350 cab and chassis. It’s got a reading body on it with lots of tools, gas driven air compressor, tires mounted on wheels, jump packs, fluids and more. It’s probably maxed out on weight.

Ford says to remove the pan, but it can be removed without removal. The drivers side pickup bolt requires patience getting it started in the bottom of the pump.
