4k player upgrade worth the $$$

Having found a nice LG 43 inch set, is it worth the uprading to a 4k upscaling player?
I ran a Samsung bluray player to the set and was pleasantly surprized at how well the set upscaled. Star Trek Beyond. Needs better sound but no flat screen is very good

You would be fine with a regular blu-ray player since your TV does the upconverting but to take advantages of a 4K TV you would need to buy a true 4K blu-ray player that can natively display 4k resolution and that can play Ultra Blu-rays.

I checked on LG's website and yep the 43" is 4K. 4k is surprisingly becoming cheaper as models enter the mid-price tier level.

Especially on a 43 screen....
If this were 60 inch plus sure...
But
At 43 inches the difference between 1080 and 4K is much harder to see than
1080 vs 4K on a significantly bigger screen.
What actual 4K content do you plan on accessing?

4k content is like blu-ray of a few years ago. Now available for streaming(smart set)and the discs should come down too.
Yes 4k sets are sometimes cheaper than 1080. Was under $300 with extended warranty delivered. Less than LG 1080 set in that size. Its on top of the fridge in the kitchen where have my computers setup for work. Office is cold and confining to be stuck in for all day

I found my using an old DVD player on a HD tv looked terrible compared to a DVD player with upscaling feature and HDMI port. That was well worth the $10 extra at our ski house with a collection of DVD's that look much better with players pseudo HD picture.

However the difference of running a DVD or Bluray that is upscaled onto 4K picture by player I am unclear if difference is as significant. Is the 4K upscale you seek in a blue ray player at best OR a 4K player which plays all which I think responders think you want?

I'd maybe see if a store like Best Buy has a similar hookup?

Upscaling is defined in players as taking less pixels and a interpolation of filler pixels to produce a pseudo higher resolution. Very effective on DVD. No idea on blue ray->4k.

I dunno... I have a 4k 40" and a 4k 55"

Its easy to see the downside to 1080 media compared to 4k, from sources weve watched, like youtube.

On the 40 or 55?
YouTube is the only 4K I know of, is it cool? Sure.
Is it worth buying a new 4K TV to watch a couple YouTube videos?
