One more question for you guys:

I'm set to purchase a computer tomorrow, and along with the 3.5in. floppy drive, it also comes with a "Single Drive: 48x CD-RW / DVD-ROM Combo Drive".

I know I'm probably just worrying too much here, but can this thing play regular CD's as well?

Sorry...it's just that when I last messed around with Windows computers, you needed to have one drive to play/use your CD's (CD-ROM drive) and another seperate one to do the "burning".

Has all this changed and now everything is compiled into one drive?

Thanks.

Yes, the drive can handle Audio/Data CDs in both read and write mode. It can also read DVD format.

Two CD drives are faster, with just one CD drive to make copy it first loads the data to the Hard drive then burns to the cd. With a second drive operating in read only copy times will be faster. If you wish to burn DVD's you can add a DVD burner if you have a expansion CD bay.
