This is the second UOA for the Kendall brew in
http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=001256#000000

Some things were changed, like I added a little approx 1/2 Qt of 20w50 and
approx 3/5 Qt of straight weight HD40 in order to offset the fuel dilution
found in the first UOA. Indeed this thickened the brew to 15w40-ish,
but also overfilled the engine oil.

Given the huge difference in measured rates on iron (0 ppm/1.5K, 28 ppm/3.3K),
I am almost certain that the biggest factor in the difference is the
different sampling methods used. The first sample was collected from
the oil filter. The last sample was collected with the drain method, and
it seems I may have caught a wave of sediments from the oil pan.
Nevertheless, despite high Fe in the 2nd OA, no Al was detected, and Cu, Pb are low or normal.

code:

The Samples, A., B.:

SAMPLE B.: 1500 MI / APPRX 4 MONTHS.

Mostly kendal 10w30, 1 qt M1_15w50, 2/3 bottle Molyslip E, 2/3 bottle

kmart engine addv (stp/zddp clone)

SAMPLE A.: 4850 MI / APPRX 9 MONTHS.

Same as sample B., but with additional 1+ Qt of 20w50/HD40 thick oil

mix (cheap Wolf's head oil).

The engine: 95 subaru 1.8L H4, with appx 117K mi.

And finally, the results....

Recommendations

Sample ID Recommendations

A: ALL ENGINE WEAR RATES NORMAL. SAMPLE APPEARS FREE OF EXTERNAL CONTAMINATION. ANALYSIS INDICATES PROPER PERFORMANCE OF THE LUBRICANT AND UNIT. VISCOSITY HIGHER THAN TYPICAL FOR THE GIVEN OIL TYPE.

B: ALL ENGINE WEAR RATES NORMAL. SAMPLE APPEARS

On the bright side, the fuel dilution prob went away (long distance highway trips,
less short drives in town in cold weather, plus, I cleaned the pcv valve).

Wear metals beside FE remain very low or normal. Fe detected is about a
factor of 2x or 3x higher than you'd expect in a soob.

I'll have to say I'm a bit bummed that these two results appear contradictory
and spurious. It would be nice to conclude something about the molyslip,
but not with this pair of results.

I wasn't planning on using my last bottle of molyslip during this
upcoming oil interval, but due to the confusion from these results,
I'm planning on reporting back end of next winter, with ~4500 miles on
15w40 + molyslip added after 2000 mi, this time, not sampled via
the drain method, but from the oil filter.
