38-0 Really? Denver destroys?

In 1996 the Broncos were the #1 seed in the AFC at 13-3, and were heavily favored to win the Super Bowl. They sat their starters for the last regular season game, and had a first round bye in the playoffs. Then they got beat by #5 seed Jacksonville in the Divisional round. Well rested, but rusty!

The running narrative around the out-of-their-minds Bengals fans here in Cincinnati is that the Chiefs intentionally lost to keep from having the possibility of facing Joe Burrow and the Bengals. If it makes them feel better to say that, ok then. If the Chiefs intentionally lost the game to keep Burrow/Bengals out of the playoffs, it was only as a way to point at Cincinnati and laugh, and not because they were the least bit afraid. Nobody in their right mind was afraid of the Bengals at this point. Denver beat the Chiefs 4th string, the cleaning lady and some of the stadium janitors 38-0 but the Bengals just barely beat Denver two weeks ago. But noooo, half the people in the delusional city I live in think KC did it because they were scared. W.h.a.t.e.v.e.r......

This game meant absolutely nothing to the Chiefs (other than being a socially acceptable way of flipping the bird to the Bengals), they rested the important people for the games that matter and no coaching staff with half a brain would have done anything any different.

Yup, it can happen. No one said this practice is failsafe. That's why they play the games. But i'd rather try to get there healthier than i went into a meaningless final game of the regular season.

Did they even make the trip? Owner might be worried the plane might crash or something. There was literally nothing good for the Chiefs that could happen in Denver.

because that is what honorable warriors do
This is an inaccurate and incomplete notion.

It's about considering EVERYTHING you can to win a championship.
Meaningless game...no benefit to winning
Guys get hurt ALL THE TIME...makes perfect sense to sit your starters
If P. Mahomes got hurt, you'd be calling the coach + staff every name in the book
There can be a benefit to starting your lesser guys to see how they play....apparently they really suck! or they didn't want to get hurt either.
I don't think it's disrespectful....it's an example of "how the cookie crumbles", that's all.

All this talk of 'tanking' to assure better draft picks IS hugely disrespectful and points to negligence on the part of the league as there are remedies. Sports people say the lottery the NBA has each year eliminates this.
Me? I don't know for sure and don't care enough to get into a tizzy over it.

When players do their stupid dances in the endzone after a touchdown, it's NOW just okay; didn't used to be.
On Sunday, after a great catch, one guy assumed a 'hood-ornament' pose and got hit with "unsportsmanlike conduct".
All of that garbage and inconsistent, seemingly personalized, officiating irks me a bit.
Maybe nobody cares about decorum anymore?
This open capriciousness is part of why I can easily live without the sport.

Ask me how I feel about hitting quarterbacks well after they've thrown the ball.
These are in no way honorable warriors. They're guys willingly playing a tough, injurious game.

Sounds like the Steelers...playing for a first round draft pick!
Hmmm, might need a quarterback. Again.
The sports pundits have mentioned A. Rogers (Jets) possibly going to Pittsburgh.

It not about winning...that is not my point.

It is about respect......to their adversary, to the game, and to the fans. Yes winning is the goal, but stars sitting out, the team giving up is not winning, it is more surviving really.

If I am in real competition, I want my adversary to give their all, leave nothing in reserve. If I lose, I lose, knowing that the adversary gave me the respect, to give it their all, to defeat me.

KC has given it their all throughout the season. Their hard work and good play rewarded the team with a meaningless 17th game in which the starters can rest and/or not risk injury for playoffs. I'm sure the 2nd and 3rd string guys were happy for the playing time. And it prepares those 2nd and 3rd string guys better if they are needed during the playoffs.
