those of you who have a GM 3.6 DI engine, either LLT or LFX, which oil and filters have you had success with and at what intervals? My cousin has a '13 Impala with the 3.6 LFX, 120k miles, he does not have a catch can, I usually change his oil when the OLM hits 0% with the cheapest Dexos 5W30 and a Napa Proselect filter.(Hes had zero problems doing it like this and also without a catch can)Hes on a budget, I know its not good for these DI engines to go to 0% OLM, what would be the best oil filter/combo and oci? Intake manifold also has never been off for manual valve cleaning either.

I have a 2016 Chevy Colorado with the 3.6 V6. I think it's the LFX engine but I'm not positive. It has the cartridge type filter and is VVT. I am kinda on a budget also so I have found that I like to use Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5w30 or Castrol GTX Magnatec Full Synthetic 5w30 along with either a Fram Ultra or Wix filter with oil changes every 4-5k miles. Both of these oils can be found at Wal Mart for under $20 for a 5qt. jug. Of course, I do have to buy an extra quart since the engine holds 6 quarts. I personally wouldn't let my Oil Life Monitor go to zero but that's just me. I've always preferred to change oil at shorter intervals especially in a Direct Injection engine.

I appreciate not going the full OLM on these DI engines, but know that GM already shortened the oil change interval in the OLM software a long time ago. They had problems with the LLT back in 2011 or so and made the change for you.

Some of them use cartridge oil filters and some use canisters, not sure why the did that. For canisters, Fram Ultra is best. For cartridges, go Fram ToughGaurd or anything with some glass fiber blended into the media, maybe Royal Purple cartridges, or Mobil 1 oil filter cartridges.

Got two in the driveway. My 2016 Colorado, and my wife's 2016 Buick LaCrosse. I've been using AC delco filters and Mobil 1 5w30 in both. OCI at 5.5-6k miles, or 25% on OLM, whichever comes first.
