25000 kms on wix filter fine? I ordered some amsoil 0w20 and wanted to try that combo up to 25000 kms, will the wix handle that? (i have a 05 civic w/d17a1 all stock).

Absolutley not... That is unless you want to screw your engine up.

Now 12K KM is ok on a Wix IMO, but I would use an Amsoil EAO filter, best filtration out there IMO and can handle the long 25K miles.

I'm using EAO's for 20K KM without issue and have very little pressure change after that length of time.

EAO's offer superior flow and filtration and use synthetic glass media which stands up to time better than paper based elements.

Also a word of advice on extended OCI's. I would use the Amsoil stuff for double that recommended in your owners manual in the severe service category. Send in a UOA and get a TBN/TAN test to see how well the oil is faring in your application.

If it comes back fine and good for continued use then you can go a little further until you find the max point for your vehicle.

This is the safe way to do extended OCI's, as not all engines and driving patterns are the same and each affects the oil differently.

People hold WIX to a high regard, and I do too, because the internals are very high quality and the design is very good. But there isn't very much media in even their larger filters, they're the one in the middle. It also has the largest inside diameter, which reduces the size of the media. So no, I wouldn't go that long. The d17 can probably go 10,000 miles on one, but not that far.

These are the exact filters for your application (and my Accord and EX 500). If you didn't want Amsoil, I'd recommend a PureOne.

Here is what my Amsoil EAO-20 filter looks like cut open after 20K KM (12K miles)

No pressure difference as tested before/after the filter so to me that suggests that the filter isn't loaded up at all and ok for continued use.

Just as a wild swag, I'd say 16k km is about the limit (10k miles) I'd go on a Wix. But 25k km? - No way.

Wix does have some glass media filters (XE series), but the pickin's are few and far between, and I'd have no idea of their practical limit.

Ok,i will order the wix ea013 filter.

I just seen in the catalog that next to the Amsoil it said wix ex. amsoil/wix. Also i read of Amsoil recomending some vehicles to use the wix over the ea020. Good to know and fast relies as always, thanks guys,Amsoil filter and oil will do.

It depends on the time compression of the 25000kms. If it's one year or less, I think you would manage fine. You're having the same warm up miles and the only added miles have virtually no loading factor to them. This would fall into the GM 7500/6month and every other filter change scenario. You probably will be at or near limits at the FCI.

It's important to give a time component with a mileage question like this.

I would say that an EaO will be in better functional condition after 25000kms vs. just about anything else at that mileage. It's specifically designed for that higher mileage usage. As the data that bcardinal(?) is bringing to the table with the pore blockage PC indicates, this would appear to be a managed thing.

That's only a little over 15,500 miles. How long is Honda telling you guys to keep their filters in use for?? 20,000 when changed every other oil change?

Honestly, I'd bet it's fine, like Gary said, as long as a nominal time frame is kept (a year is good).
