TIA I have a nice stainless steel Dewey rod, female threaded 8-32, it is the perfect size to clean a .22 Rimfire rifle. I have a .20 caliber jag male thread 5-40, that seems to be the only size they come in. I'm having a senior moment here and can't for the life of me find an 8-32 male to 5-40 female adapter, or an 8-32 male threaded .20 caliber jag to use with this rod. A.22 caliber jag is too thick for a Rimfire rifle. Any help or links would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, I saw those I need 8-32 male to 5-40 female, they have it in reverse. I already have 5-40 to 8-32 and it doesn't work.

I think you might need a few adapters to make it work.
Trust me my friend I looked into that too. I might give Dewey a shout tomorrow, especially since the rod is for .22 Rimfire. I was hoping someone would link me to something so I could call this a senior moment. ;)

A standard .22 jag should work just fine in .22 rimfire. What size patches are you using? Bore Tech recommends 1" for .20 and .22 rimfire. They also offer a specific 22 rimfire jag that gives you the option of wrapping the patch around the jag.

Q: What is the difference between the 22 Rimfire and 22Centerfire Jags?

A: The 22 Rimfire jag has 2 bands of knurling instead of the two bands of rings at the head of the jag. Many Rimfire shooters like to wrap patches around the jag instead of spiking them. The knurling allows the shooter to choose between wrapping and spiking the patch. Both jags can be used on either 22 rimfire or centerfire barrels.

The price of that adapter kit and needing to futz around with three adapters would have me spending the few dollars more and buying a .17 or .20 rod threaded for 5-40 if I wanted to continue using 5-40 cleaning accessories.

Thanks! I use 1" patches, and on my shorter barreled 22 RF a .20 jag works much better than a .22 jag. I was really hoping they made an 8-32 .20 cal jag.

It certainly doesn't look like anyone does. Another option would be to have a friend with a lathe turn down some 8-32 jags to work for you.

Thanks Ed! That's actually a good idea. I can mail my .20 cal 5-40 jag along with a .22 cal 8-32 jag and have turn it down on his lathe for me. I'm really in no hurry.

Get a .20 caliber bore brush; these should have the 5-40 thread (if I'm understanding correctly...which is hit/miss these days). Wrap a cleaning patch around the bristles. That should work.
