My 2021 escape has something broken inside muffler as it rattles. I can grab it and shake it and hear it. Can't find aftermarket and dealer wants $900 for a darn muffler. Crazy? Any ideas?

Isn't it still under warranty? 
Borla makes a 304 exhaust for the Bronco Sport (part #140882), which is just an Escape underneath. The Bronco Sport exhaust may or may not fit.
Otherwise, you could just get a universal Borla muffler and clamp it on.
Maybe if you're nice, @bdcardinal can give you a good deal on the muffler, as he is a Ford parts guy
There is an OE muffler on eBay for $650, while still not cheap, it's not $900 either.
Get a 90 degree mandrel bend and a universal muffler. Or a Y-pipe thing and 2 small mufflers (this is what Borla does for the Bronco Sport catback, as it has the same muffler design as your Escape)

Probably just a hanger or heat shield came loose? If not you can probably still unbolt the muffler easily and smash some dents in it with a hammer until it doesn't rattle.
Appreciate the feedback..unfortunately no warranty as it's my work car over 200,000 miles
It might be worth a shot to go to a local exhaust shop and see if they can weld in a universal Walker Quiet flow muffler or something. I've seen them do some creative stuff with a pipe bender.
I think non carb states are 10 year 100k miles and carb states by law have a longer warranty on emissions components.
A junkyard might be a good bet

sounds like a baffle inside broke off a weld. A junkyard or muffler shop be the least expensive route.
Shipping would be horrendous. Ford sells it as a complete muffler and pipe assembly from behind the cat.Isn't it still under warranty?
