2027 Nissan Rogue driven by electric motors

As a Nissan fan, I don’t know what to make of this. The cvt is gone and the wheels will be driven by electric motors. I can’t see Nissan messing this up lol. Now the sewing machine engine will be basically a generator. Mpg is essentially the same and it isn’t technically an ev. Hmmm!

They basically made a Chevy Volt. Which was one of the most sensible EVs made.

I can see me buying one and having one of the electric motors fail and then what? Nissan eventually gets things right, but often Tommy boys new tech. I’m on the fence of do I buy a 26, or wait to see and drive a 27. Apparently the cabin noise is next to nothing. But I’m not a fan of the infotainment screen, which looks very Kia.

I thought the series hybrid like this had lost out to the eCVT. Maybe this tries to appeal to those who have shorter drives but don't want pure EV for the occasional long ones. Options are good I guess: one could opt for whatever works best for them.

I don’t think so. The rogue is still their cash cow. Having just did 4 days in a kicks, which for the money is a lot of car. I’d take a rogue any day. I could see the pathfinder going bye bye well before the rogue. Or, just discontinue the armada and keep the infinity version.

This tech won’t be out till late this year for 27 and outside of the cvt not being part of the power train, I’m not seeing the pull. Same mpg and the motors will be driven by I guess a battery pack that the 1.5 charges. I’m assuming that the engine just idles as you power along, since the cabin noise is next to none. Lots of questions here. Oil changes, what happens when a drive motor on a wheel malfunctions? Seems like jumping the shark, or Nissan realized that the 1.5 is only reliable as a generator lol.

The Rogue was there smallest SUV, and it just kept growing. For a bit there were two Rogues, the Sport and the Classic, old and new platform, smaller and larger.

In 2025 they sold almost as many Kicks as Rogues in USA, and way, way more in rest of world. Either way Rogue is a global platform, so we get what they get. I don't think series hybrid scares away the average Rogue buyer, if anything it helps. Best selling in that class is Rav4 which is now also only available in hybrid.

Murano might go away if anything, don't know.

Pathfinder is 3 row SUV - totally different category.

That's one way to get rid of CVT issues, They are also switching to a more reliable engine as well.

Not having the plug-in capability on a series hybrid system vehicle is strange. A NACS port (AC charging only would be fine) and a couple feet of cable can't cost that much. Obviously a slightly larger battery is the major cost but at Nissan's scale, shouldn't be a major issue and they can charge an extra $2K for it or something. Maybe they plan to introduce that after a year or so? Having a hybrid and PHEV version of the same vehicle would be neat. Even 20 miles of EV range would be useful.

But if it's reliable and returns decent MPG I think Nissan will finally compete in an important segment. Because let's face it not a single vehicle they make at this time is worth buying. Even at work where the fleet has mostly been Frontiers for over a decade, well, we just got a Maverick. The Frontier is just too bad on gas and unreliable.

From the sounds of it for 2027, you'll have the choice of the variable compression 1.5 & CVT combo, or the new AWD e-power hybrid that uses a non VC 1.5 (thank goodness).

Between the 2020 Sentra with the electrical gremlins backup cam infotainment issues had a freak pulley tensioner issue. The 24 Rogue had the back glass shattered from poor manufacturing was back ordered for over a month and the vc-t recall and ecu updates I prefer to shop another brand.

I’ve had the opposite experience with Nissans, dating back to 03. My 03 never had the pre cat issues, in fact, I didn’t know it even existed. I had an 07 murano that last I knew had over 300k on it, 09 Altima which did get a new cvt @95k under extended warranty and my daughter uses as a work car and has 259k. My 18 rogue sits @125k and I’d drive it cross country and never bat an eye. My 21 and 24 altimas have been bulletproof while pulling mid 30s mpg. In between Chrysler and GM had constant issues. Enough so I’d never entertain another. But I do agree on the frontier. I want one but can’t stomach 22 mpg on the highway, if you’re lucky.

If we ever start building an individual motor at each wheel I see huge advantages for traction control and off-road. Gone are the days of worrying about a differential, lockers, limited grips etc.

You can power each wheel individually, period.

Anyway, enough pie-in-the-sky....back to reality
