ESP does not shear down rapidly. We've seen no evidence of that, Exxon-Mobil does not use inferior VII.In my car esp 0w30 seems to shear down relatively rapidly, so it starts like a 30 but doesn’t stay there long

And thats non turbo? This always makes me feel better .. I used Pennzoil 5w30 Ultra platinum and I think it sounds louder, but not sure.... i changed from 0w20 Mazda oil with moly to the 5w30 Pennzoil Platinum
Yup. Used Mobil 1 5w30 advanced but I drive about 4k mi every 6 months before draining so I decided to stick with Warren oil and save money. And thats non turbo?
Do you use it year round? What climate are you in? Its cold here in Texas, but Im still using 5w30Yup. Used Mobil 1 5w30 advanced but I drive about 4k mi every 6 months before draining so I decided to stick with Warren oil and save money.
I'm in the southwestern part of TN with hot and humid summers. It doesn't get extremely cold in our winters for me to use 0w, so 5w handles our winters just fine. I do let it run for about a minute when cold and take of as soon as RPMs drop.Do you use it year round? What climate are you in? Its cold here in Texas, but Im still using 5w30
Let me know if its quieter. I think Pennzoil Ultra Platinum made my engine louder at startup but very quiet during running..strange.. may just go back to the Mazda 0w20 oil with moly, after all this.. Just not 100 percent sold on puting 5w30 in there now, or pennzoil ultra platinum for that matter-I need to make up my mind here lolI did my first change on my Mazda CX5 non turbo at 650 miles and used Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0W20. I noticed that the engine did get louder at startup and idle, but I have noticed that same issue with Mobil in other cars as well. Tonight I changed the filter and oil again at 3600 miles with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w20. I will see if in the morning it is any quieter or not, I could not tell with the short run to fill the filter and get the car off the ramps tonight and the hood was up. I am leery of going to a 5w30 only because I want a low volatility, high detergent oil for the GDI. Even though its not proven to help with intake valve deposits it makes me feel better.
And I did notice that even though Mazda says 4.5 qts with filter mine takes exactly 5 qts to be right at the high fill mark.
Skyactiv's are very loud at cold start, as a result of valve and ignition timing being manipulated to increase exhaust gas temperature to warm up the catalytic convertor as quickly as possible.
I was sold on 5w30 by common sense, which the owner manual lacks of. They explicitly state that 0w20 is "recommended" for optimal fuel economy. They never stated that 5w30 is prohibited. I once saw either on this forum or elsewhere that this engine's clearances were designed for thin oil. LMAO. The OM lists 5w30 for this same exact engine but with a turbo on it. Both engines are identical. Oh, and 0w20 is for North America only. That's right, because no other country has this bs regulation. I'll take engine protection and I'm fine if it cost me 0.5 mpg less.Just not 100 percent sold on puting 5w30 in there now
You mean, in other words does not matter what oil you use, its gonna be loud at startup? This is definitely good to know ...Mazda Skyactiv engine's are louder at startup to heat the cat up quicker. Do not chase oils regarding that.
That makes a lot of sense... And i often wondered about that .. When people say "ONLY use 0w20 because of the tighter clearances .. But yet the Turbo has the SAME clearances??!!!! And they DEFINITElY say to use 530 for that...And youre right.. they say 5w30 for the non turbo EXCEPT US, Israel and Canada..Then they SPECIFY 530 for Mexico.... But ive heard arguments thats because its (0w20 full synthetic) is not as available or too expensive in other countries , like Mexico-which sounds unlikely to me. So I think you are right on that its simply the regulation......I was sold on 5w30 by common sense, which the owner manual lacks of. Curious as to why you are going with 0 30 over 5w30? Is it too cold where you are at?You will be fine with 5W-30. Don't sweat it. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is a good choice. Me personally....My CX-5 is getting Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 on the next oil change. ESP because it is a highly regrarded oil here and 30 grade because I am looking to quiet down and smooth out the engine even if just a little.
Haha! Great!
Are those non turbo engines as well?I’ve never heard of that but good to know.
Here in Florida I use 10W30 in our Mazdas.
