2025 Charger is out for the press

What have you been smokin'?

Stream or rent the movie, "Bullitt". It stars Steve McQueen.
He's stalked by bad guys from Chicago.
A car chase scene ensues through the streets of San Francisco and out-of-town.
Note the bad guys' car. It's the black one if you're not sure.

YES, indeed , probably the most famous and "wanted" classic Mopar muscle machines in existence next to the Road Runners.

Also the greatest car chase sequence in any movie. The Bullitt Mustang was no slouch either.

Off Topic:
There is another close, kind of copy-cat chase scene in a movie some years later that is almost as good.
The Seven Ups film about NY City undercover (Roy Shieder of Jaws fame) police chasing the same bad guy (real actor/stunt driver) from Bullitt in a Pontiac Ventura.

I think it does a pretty decent retro tribute to the original:

They've shortened up the front end, but tried to pay homage to the original grille and air extractor hood. Also tried to recreate the original "hips".
I like the hood treatment in the front with the air foil and power bulge. Mopar had done a similar "built in" rear spoiler on a car back in the 70s they teamed with Hurst Inc for a one year special edition.

No, but there is a way around it. Some cars have "Boom box", which is external speakers. Want a Hellcat? Lambo? You can make your Tesla sound visceral while blowing the doors off of other cars. Just get a copy of the engine sound you like and let 'er rip!

Someone made the Windows XP startup and shutdown sounds on their Tesla when they unlock/lock it. Stuff like custom sounds and Sentry mode/Teslacam are stuff I wish the Prologue had. Even the beautiful GMC Sierra EV my dream car can’t do that. Tesla is so far ahead with that stuff.

Not at all accurate. The guys who are buying the v8's don't just want the power, they want the sound and the visceral experience; especially the challengers which are "fun" cars and usually a second car, they're purchased by guys who enjoy the complete experience. Feeling the little shake at idle, the rumble as it waits, the glorious sound as you get on it, hearing it wind up ... EV's are completely souless, I'd have more fun being pushed around in a shopping cart.
That’s why I want the gas version… and Dodge seems to know it which is why they said they’re prioritizing gas versions over the EV.

That chase scene begins 'over on the West Side' where more street scenes were shot through the '20's - '40's than you could count.
It's also where Andy Warhol's 'factory' was.

They go up old US Rt. 9A...also called the Henry Hudson Parkway to the George Washington Bridge. They don't show you how they got to Broadway (way uptown where Malcolm X was killed) and zoomed up the Palisades Interstate Parkway.

They never filmed ON the bridge.

When the drinking ages differed (18 in NY and 21 in NJ), there were always fatal crashes on that beautiful highway.

So first you say something about "v8 blowhards" giving it a try might like it, but now you say you want the gasser, and a little i6 at that. You're kind of all over the map here. V8 blowhards like myself aren't any more excited about the i6 than the EV. I'd actually take the EV if I had to pick, both are souless in their own way but then you may as well take the advantages of electric and never have to see a gas station or do other maintenance to it. I'd burn the outdoor speakers first of course, no excuse for that nonsense.

Anyway, as for the prioritizing we'll see. Clearly they are insisting on getting the EV out first, the hurricane has been in production for a few years now so if that's "prioritizing" when sales are rock bottom with dealers literally screaming at the leadership for some gas products to sell, then I'd hate to see what "taking their time" looks like.

I was never interested in the EV, only the gasser. And I used to be a V8 blowhard… turns out there are other great engines out there, regardless of the number of cylinders. I’ll still be keeping my hemi powered truck till the frame rots though.

I like the idea of sentry mode and built in webcam, which is the only thing I think Teslas have that isn't available on pretty much anything else. I don't need farting sounds, that's just stupid.

I know exactly what a 1968 Charger looks like. My neighbor had a 68 Charger with a 440 and a 4 speed and that thing would haul. He also had a 71 Plymouth GTX that ran in the high 12's at the local drag strip. With all due respect it has a lot of the lines of the 68 style Dodge Charger and looks much more like a Charger than the 4 doors made the last several years. I was a Mopar guy in the 70's. Had a 340 Cuda and a 71 Duster 340 that ran 13.75's in the 1/4 mile at the local track. Everyone has their own opinion I guess. Personally, I like most of the retro vehicles that have been produced and the extra horsepower and enhancements are very welcome.

You really think so?
The reason I say it does look like a charger is because it's long and it's a 2 door even though a 4 door will probably be produced too. It has some of the basic lines of the old Charger's. I would rather have a Hellcat any day but I like anything retro because most of the cars today all look about the same unless they have a retro look or are something like a sports car.

I hear you joe, but the lines of the originals ARE true craven images.
Your 'Cuda and Duster aren't far behind as I got Mopar Madness (an infection) from being near my friends.

Using your design feel, and that of other's, I gotta say the Camaro retro was the one which pulled off a "homage".
This is totally subjective, and I do get the notion of not attempting to copy the originals exactly.

I think the new Challenger was a closer representation of the older one. Never liked the looks of the new Charger.

Very true Kira. I do like the originals and would love to have a big block 68-72 Nova, Camaro, or a Chenille. They are just so expensive to buy a good one all done and ready to show. It' much less expensive to buy ZL-1 Camaro and you should be good for thousands of trouble free miles. I would like to keep my Corvette and buy a ZL-1 Camaro or Hellcat sometime down the road. There are just so many nice choices now that the car companies are throwing high horsepower in many brands.

When will these be available?

There’s a couple hundred listed on CarGurus right now. All “in transit” still though with no real photos on dealer lots. I’d bet within 2-3 weeks we’ll see them on dealer lots.

I never really liked the look of the very first "new" 2006 thru 2010 ones. The ones I think are the best/sporty looking ones were made from 2011 thru now. Especially the last few years. That design , even with 4 doors to me looks so much sportier than others. For some reason the Chargers way outnumber the Challengers like 10 to 1 around me? I assume ... maybe the Challengers are not really designed too much for simple "daily driver street use?" Maybe more designed for the strips or street racing etc....?

The very first , " newer / modern" ones I felt were too bulky looking. Did not even look at all very much like a sports model car...?

I plan to find me a nice used one in the 2018 to 2022 range (have wanted a Charger all my life) once I get the wife her new vehicle soon.
She keeps telling me go with the Charger first but we both need an SUV to be able to travel in with our bad spines etc....
