2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ

Bad decision on their part.

I suppose they will give their proprietary system a name? Dexos?

You called it first LOL. But it will be in typical operating system naming fashion: DexOS.
Since GM wants to cosplay as a software company.

Not likely at $130K. We can't build EV pickup trucks for a profit, with half that battery capacity for that.

If history is any guide, EV's are double the cost of their gas counterparts. We are clearly looking at $170K for that, for even the most slim of profit margins.

Remember, a fully loaded Rivian pickup is over $100K.
Gee, my old Tundra is looking better and better every day.

Haha, well this beast of an SUV is clearly a high end, top shelf, luxury product. I don't dislike what it is. I simply claim that the useful, big battery version won't be cheap. Or lightweight.

As you know I drive quite a few miles per year. The number 1 issue for me is seat comfort. I've also noticed that many new cars (rentals) are exceedingly noisy on the highway. Road noise roars in, especially from the back tires. Annoying. The full sized trucks seem immune to that and are quite pleasant. With that in mind, the Tundra meets all my requirements for a traveling machine.

70 MPH range test.
482 miles

And this was with AC on, a bathroom break, and not actually going to 0% 🤯🤩

Wow! Amazing range, complete luxury.
I just would wonder what the typical person with that disposable income would go for electric or gasoline?
Or it could just be a corporate car

And another test at 60 MPH.

607 miles!

I wonder constantly who the buyer is at this cost.

"company car"

Most guys buying this will call it a company car, 179 it, and send a giant chunck of the bill to the American taxpayers.

If I bought one the math look pretty much like this.

Vehicle Cost: $140,000
Section 179 Deduction: $31,300
Remaining Cost: $140,000 - $31,300 = $108,700

For 2025, the remaining cost after Section 179 can be depreciated by 40% as bonus depreciation.

Bonus Depreciation (40%): $108,700 × 0.40 = $43,480

Total First-Year Deduction: $31,300 + $43,480 = $74,780

Actual Out-of-Pocket Cost After Deductions:

Net Cost:
$140,000 - $74,780 = $65,220

Thanks to the magic of 179 every moderately successful trades industry guy can drive a 100K diesel pickup.

Between this and the Lucid Air Gravity, I think I'd go with the Gravity.

How many do you think they'll sell? I think manufacturer should have to break out numbers by model and make not just X number of trucks etc.

True. If I had 130k to drop on this… 100% I’d stretch that a [relative] hair and go all-in on a Tacayne turbo-S

The kind of guy that buys this can have both.

Radically different rig, but everyone knows that.

To take 3 couples on a day trip (do it 5 times a year in Sonoma Napa, Paso Robles wine tasting) you'd need two Taycans and worse yet two drivers (This driver doesnt drink a drop when shuttling and misses the tasting)

- not mention take your boat to the ramp, or a short trip and back forth to the lake loaded with all the stuff a while family and their dogs needs for a day.

An 80 mph range test would be more relevant here in Texas.

Probably still longer than my bladder range.

Yup and yup.

80 is what out of spec uses, Bjorn uses 75 or 120 ishKPH/

Range at 60 isn't even relevant for "in town highway" 65MPH stretches where everyone is going 5 over not 5 under.

At 60 you are " that guy" in the right lane slamming into every pothole in the truck lanes, or totally blocking everyone else on the road getting honked and the middle finger everywhere.

Local power company had an EV drive event two weeks ago. I was able to drive one of these. Holy cow does it have effortless power. 0-60 in 4 seconds and hit 100MPH shortly after that. It doesn't drive as big as it feels either. Only downside is the price!
Kind of amazing it doesn't feel as big as it is at a pavement cracking 9k+ lbs. That definitely says a lot of its power.

The $40k to $50k range buys a very nice and capable Tesla these days. Its not a $20k Kia but $50k is the average new car off-the-lot price for all cars these days.
