Hi everyone, new to the forum and thought I'd post my used oil analysis to the forum for some analysis.
I purchased this car used from a dealer with only 8k miles on it and changed the oil as soon as I got the chance.

Looking at my used oil analysis looks like my wear metals are on the high side, especially Iron and Copper. What does everone think, is this allright considering the amount of miles on the first oil change?

I don't like waiting that long for the first oil change for sure, and going forward I plan on using shorter intervals.

I don’t think that’s the FF. Silicon and iron would be higher (much). The moly counterweights that somewhat. If this was mine I would surmise the oil had been changed, probably only once.

Thanks! and thanks for the responses, filled with Castrol Edge Euro 0w-20M. It carries the BMW LL17FE+ spec and is available locally so thats a plus. Current plan is to run the oil to 6k miles and then restest and see where I'm at with the wear metals.

I checked the carfax and it didnt show any oil changes or service history. The car was actually a service loaner so I would assume that the dealer would have followed the standard BMW oil change schedule but who knows right?

I will say the oil that came out was very dark which I know isnt definitive, but leads me to believe that it hadnt been changed recently.

THe car only has 8k miles on it and the interval is the lesser of 1 yr or 10k miles so there's no reason why the dealership should have changed the oil

I would be a little frustrated with the dealer. Service loaner or not, typically the prep before sell is a multi point inspection and oil change.

I think your right in that its a pretty common practice to change the oil before selling. Like @BMWTurboDzl said above though that's not the usual BMW oil change schedule so I figured its better safe than sorry and did an oil change myself to be on the safe side. I'm glad I did lol.

At least it gave me the chance to send the old oil off to be tested which is a silver lining I suppose!
