2025 4Runner

They had the 22R-TE Turbo 4 cylinder in the 80's. It was a good engine, but was replaced by the larger displacement NA 3.0 V6 3VZE, in the late 80's.

They've made Turbo 4 cylinder Diesel engines for decades, available in other markets. They have been legendary in their reliability. Newer versions which have all of the latest Diesel emissions systems, have been a bit more problematic.
 
Lets see if it lasts 10 years. So far Toyota's journey with turbo truck engines has been catastrophic.

Well...the majority of motors have not been recalled. But yea-time will tell how catastrophic it will really be. Some of the motors have been recalled because of internal(metal scrap) issues (no turbo problems) while others have been recalled for the wastegate issues. I have yet to see where there is actual design defect related to the motor itself.

That's only the TTV6.

I haven't heard of those concerns with the Turbo 4 cylinder engines.

Yes-thanks for the clarification. My point being is there is no evidence the current issues are a "motor defect" in the TTV6. Take away the wastegate issues and the manufacturing error (scrap metal) and the motor seems sound.
 
I would have no trouble with a Toyota 4T. They’ve been out for a while in the Lexus line. Toyota seems to be taking care of tundra owners. 6T in my truck has extremely good torque characteristics for truck use, lots down low where you want it.

4R looks good, looks real good!
 
Long time 4runner owner 4th and 5th generation.
I Like others are on the fence about the new turbo a model. Here in SoCal living down by the beach most of these 4Runners that I see pounding the ground are pretty much spotless and most likely aren't really used in a four-wheel drive application. I guess it must be turbo love these days!

To also be clear, the TTV6 is not available in the 4Runner. So any issues the TTV6 has had, are not relevant to the 4Runner.

Limited Warranty
Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and against perforation from corrosion for 60 months with no mileage limitation. Hybrid-related components that require repairs needed to correct defects in materials or workmanship are covered for 8 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first from original date of first use when sold as new. The hybrid battery is covered for 10 years/150,000 miles, whichever comes first, and is transferable across ownership.

The 2025 4Runner also comes with ToyotaCare, a plan covering normal factory-scheduled maintenance, for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first, and 2 years, unlimited mileage of Roadside Assistance.
 
My dad wants one 80. His only new car he bought for himself new and recently sold was a 90 4Runner manual transmission SR5. Sat in his barn for 5 years as only I could drive it once a year to get state inspection and another time for a ride.

Not sure egress is great for his poor mobility , the Outback is perfect he has.

Thank you! I don't know much about new vehicle warranties but I'll assume the Powertrain 60k warranty is the important one.

The 22RET was a stop gap until they had the 3.slow ready to go. crap turbo and barely any power. The v6 was crap until the 3.4L rolled around.
