The owner's manual says 4.4 qts. The 2023 model same engine says 4.9 qts. I changed the oil and was a half qt. low with the 4.4 I put in. I thought maybe it's a misprint, I know the old 1.8 used to take 4.4 qts. I don't think there has been any changes with the 2.0 since it was introduced. Anyone with experience with this engine?

Put in either 4 or 4.5 quarts.
Start engine and then turn off.
Check 10 minutes later.
Add as necessary.

Is this a trick question?
I just thought it was weird that Toyota would list the wrong fill capacity in their owner's manual. I know in the past manufacturers have changed the length of the dipsticks.

I would put 4.5 quarts in and be done with it . Dipsticks have been known to be slightly off on some models.

2019 Lexus UX 250h.
2022 Corolla Cross.
2024 Corolla Cross Hybrid.
M20A-FXS/M20A-FKS.
It's always been 4.5 quarts with a top off if necessary.

  • 1.8L 4-Cylinder Engine: 4.4 quarts (with filter) / 4.2 quarts (without filter)
  • 2.0L 4-Cylinder Engine: 4.5 quarts (with filter) / 4.3 quarts (without filter)
  • 2.0L Hybrid Engine: 3.9 quarts (with filter) / 3.7 quarts (without filter)

My wife’s 2023 Corolla takes 5 quarts to get the full line. Same with my daughter’s 2016 RAV4 with the 2AR-FE engine despite the owners manual indicating a lower refill amount.

Toyota also updated the A25A capacity on the Lexus models. 2023 RXh was 4.8 qt, now it's 4.5 qt.

4.5 qt fills the 2024 RXh to the full dot, IME.

Interesting that the capacity would change. The 2021 Corolla with the 2.0L M20A-FKS that I service calls for 4.6L. I just dump an entire 5 qt (4.7L) jug and carry on with life.

If you are reading the dipstick level correctly after an oil change and still short on oil, put in five quarts and close the hood.

My Hyundai Manual says 5.1 quarts. I put in five quarts and call it a day. I'm not measuring-out and pouring 3 ounces of oil.... which is the volume for .1
I do have a whiskey shot glass that holds 3 ounces. But with my luck, I'll think it's my honey whiskey and drink it.

Obviously, the thing to do is add four quarts, drive around a bit, and top off as needed.

Another variable is how much old oil is removed.

I have consistently drained to the rate of one drop every thirty seconds, especially when doing successive UOAs.

If you are 1/2qt low w 4.4qts just dump the whole 5qts in and let it be a smidge high. Will not hurt anything. My 05 Element says 4.4qts but when I put the 5qt jug in it sits right at the full mark, 4.4qts is also low on the dipstick. I don't need partials taking up space in the garage.

2022 Corolla Cross here, Manual for mine is 4.9 Quarts. I just always dump the entire 5Qt jug in and its always at the top of the fill mark.
