What's funny is the people who usually comment about people being sensitive are complaining about this being too much.
You seem to misunderstand. I am not offended. These people who run that show have shown what they are and what they believe in, and I decided I want nothing to do with them and I won't consume their product. It's called Capitalism. As for a comment on a public forum on a subject, I stated my opinion on the matter as one tends to do on these things. But personally offended? Negative.

The opening ceremony wasn't exactly inspiring. The Last Supper interpretation was highly atrocious.
It was insane. I intended to watch the shooting, but not now. I won't watch a single minute of it after that stupid abomination. Anyone who was associated with that idiotic, ignorant fiasco should be permanently kicked off the Olympic Committee. And not allowed anywhere near it again.

Completely agree. This goes right into the same garbage sack that Bud Light ended up in.... And for the exact same reason.

Too much what?

Bottom line, and simply: This had zero to do with the Olympics and accepting people around the world. This targeted hatred for a certain group. Had they used Mohammad or Buddha people would have been the same way...in essence: DOESN'T BELONG.

I'm not offended by this either. I think it was just foolish and stupid, and had no place in the Olympic Games. And like you, I won't purchase anything the advertisers put forth because of it.

This wouldn't have happened even 10 years ago, because people had enough common sense back then to understand that no good can possibly become of it. Not today.

I cannot understand this, anymore than I can understand why celebrities find themselves so important, in that they feel they must go off the rails publicly about their political choices, and people they oppose.

Why purposely alienate a large percentage of the people who watch you, or whatever program? What good can possibly come of it from a monetary standpoint? I'm not going to post names because I don't have to. You all know who they are.

Here is a list of the advertisers who are pulling out of the Olympics because of this stupid nonsense. I'm sure more will be added. This whole thing was stupid on steroids.

For a group that gets offended so easily, they sure do go out of their way to offend.

I'm by no means a religious person, but there's a line you do not cross when it comes to being a decent human being and respecting others.

A line was crossed.

Live and let live.
You nailed it.
I’m still in shock over this, there is something wrong when a sanctioned event like the Olympics allows this mockery to take place. I just don’t get the purpose and why.
Another sign of lack of respect among humans and breakdown of society. If you think about it we aren’t any better than we were centuries ago. Just another new low for a world that thinks we are so advanced.

Made my wife’s day spending paltry $8 on Peacock so she could watch Tennis and gymnastics on her iPad and our TV.

So glad I don’t wake up angry and have to research what companies to boycott because I got offended. 🤪
Good for you. That's why Capitalism works. You are a fan of the in your face mocking of Christians and our beliefs, or at least don't mind it, and you want to support that type of activity. Your 8 dollars will help that to continue. Your money and your decisions, nobody else's, and I can respect that.

It's basically trying to push all of this liberal, progressive nonsense. They never seem to learn. The more abnormal it is, the more they want to see it pushed. Look at Disney World and all of their "Woke" nonsense.

Ticket sales are way down. Just like the sale of Bud Light.... And they're not coming back. This has cost these people billions of dollars in lost profits.

But they can't help themselves. It sure seems like an expensive way to bring this to everyone's attention. As they say.... "Go woke, go broke". I wonder where that marketing director for Anheuser Busch is working now?

When you think about it, the stuff you mention here pales in comparison to what just took place on an international stage representing the populations of the entire world.

Don't forget, there's a whole world of countries outside of the USA. You don't understand other people's culture difference.

They managed to pull Canadian singer Celine Dion from retirement, one of the few super stars who can sing in the French language.
She was awesome. The highlight of the whole opening disaster. She added class to what may go down in Olympic history as the worst opening ceremony ever.

Until now, my wife pointed out, until this Olympic opening, the opening was about the countries and athletes. The display of boats, shoreline "acts" and last supper made a mockery of it all, void of the individual athletes proudly carrying their country flag, they were put on boats. No one knew who and what was going on.

Anyway all I mean't to type was Celine Dion nailed it, here in North Carolina our community was in awe commenting about it.

Katie Levecky the USA swimmer, maybe gold today. OH, MAYBE IT ALREADY HAPPENED.

Spare me. I don't care, or "have to understand" what their "culture" is or isn't. That doesn't give ANY OF THEM any right to make a mockery of a faith that billions of people throughout the world hold sacred. And that is precisely what they did... And did on purpose. That's sheer lunacy. And I hope they pay a dear price for it.

What was the point of the scene they created? It was simply a jab a Christianity.
There’s a thing called being respectful of others and their beliefs. I’m not a religious person and I’m not offended by it, but it is disrespectful. If anyone as a person or a group want respect, they must earn it.
If they feel persecuted by Christian’s or anyone else, stooping to childish and insulting actions, knowing full well that those actions are meant to offend, makes them no better.
It’s all just nonsense.

We watched the opening ceremony with the boats. I found it humorous the variety of the boats. Some countries had a nice big boat, some countries had to share a big boat with other countries and some countries had their few athletes on some very small dingy looking boats. I just thought the boats would be more uniform.

And it turned into a geography quiz with my wife asking me where some of the more obscure countries were located.

But that's what the French do, this is very "culturally normal" for them. Remember the Charlie Hebdo affair? Nobody and nothing is above criticism and mockery in French culture, which has created some considerable conflict with non-French people at times.

The rest of the West might find it distasteful, crass or outright offensive, but this is just how they roll.

A bright spot was of course Gojira, the first heavy metal band ever featured at the Olympics.
