2024 GMC Sierra EV - Revealed

Your rose colored Tesla glasses need cleaned old boy. ;)

IMO this isn't attractive. Too kit car-ish to my eye.

I don't care much for the looks of the Model Y myself. Owners flat out love 'em, though. Make mine a Performance...
Did you know the Model Y is expected to become the #1 selling vehicle in the world of any kind in the next year or two?

And the Cybertruk is butt-ugly. All good.

Yes. Real world conditions tend to hit range claims hard. Again, 70mph loop tests are not accurate, with real world average speeds of 60mph or even less! Including multiple periods of regen. Furthermore the Hummer has an even bigger battery than this does, at 213 usable KWh, or about 230 total KWh.

All of this does highlight my point from a few years ago. A 200KWh battery size is an absolute minimum for a full size pickup truck. And when that battery is 2x (or more) the size of a Model S battery, it takes a lot more time to charge on today's commonly available chargers. Putting 120KWh into a battery at a charge stop (20% to 80%) is a time consuming affair.

Also, pickup trucks do no better than 2 miles per KWh at a right lane hogging 70mph in typical conditions, only 1.5 miles per KWh at typical 80mph highway speeds. Towing 0.8 miles per KWh.

Whats the kwh on this GMC, is it not the same battery pack as the hummer? I cant find it listed anywhere, which is dubious.

What's important to note is the 400 mile range. That's more distance than a lot of bladders can go-based on what I think the (average) demographics are on this board. So-the goal post will probably be moved by some with the comments stating I won't buy one until I can go 600 miles. Yea...sure.

GM did a nice job-now just trickle the features, range, etc, down to more affordable products.
My gas-powered crew cab (3.5EB, 36 gal tank, hand-calculated 23.7 mpg) has personally taken me to the far side of 830 miles on a single tank, so no, I won’t be satisfied with a mere 600-mile range.

I’ve been more than 525 miles with the bed stuffed to the gills with luggage and towing 9500lbs, through the TN/NC mountains too, so… nice try but no. That was 14.6 mpg per the dash.

And you also benefit from a no strings attached 2 minute "recharge" 😁

The larger, $107,900 version of the Sierra is 200KWh. The Hummer is about 230KWh, with 213 usable.

Way too expensive for the average guy, that's for sure.

1.5 miles per KWh in real world high speed, highway use. The only way to get 2 miles per KWh is to go slow. But with speed limits at 75 and even 80mph in places, and even one stretch of 85mph, and common speeds around 80 on most interstates, the real world has a way of eating up battery power.
Mostly unrelated to the debate in here, one thing in your post caught my eye. Speed Limits *LOL*

There are no speed limits!! Except maybe some parts of Georgia.
I drove from SC to Florida (as you may know) I think 7 (seven) times in early summer. I was blown away how fast everything was moving, even semi's, sure, I got used to doing 80 in a 70 and I really try not to exceed it ... but driving from I-26 and throughout I-95 if you dare drive at 75 to 77 MPH you will risk getting rear ended *LOL* I am NOT kidding.

Even doing 80 MPH cars will zip by you at 90 and you feel like your in the slow lane at 80 if behind a car in the right lane (and dangerous) and over time, it seems I might have been passing some vehicles looking at the speedometer and seeing 95 MPH. Maybe it was the time of year of no law enforcement?
Ive never been so impressed with an SUV as this Traverse, 5000 lb tow limit and at those speeds I got 20MPG which is higher than the 16 to 17 around town (wasnt towing). Super quiet even with the optional 20 inch wheels, no rattles which seems amazing for a GM. Its really exceeded our expectations, the only criteria when we bought this was a factory tow package, it didnt have to be any particular brand.

SO they have to figure out the battery thing or h2 .. around town EV's sure, no problem, people who enjoy the wide open roads this country offers like almost no other place on earth, give me fossil fuel or h2

Gotta be careful in Georgia though and REALLY careful by the GA FL border.. wow... amazing difference, they actually enforce the law and I have no problem with that but in most all other areas, if you try to do those 70 to 75 MPH numbers in an EV, be prepared to put you life in danger from everything, including tractor trailers.

Game over for Tesla’s 75 times price earnings ratio. There is now too much competition.
I keep an open mind to everything and never say never but as you might know I have been almost preaching what you say in this forum.
At the time the P/E was around 100 and still haven't been able to wrap my head as to why? Yes, they were first but in all retailing the competition from all over the world duplicates success in record time and in many cases does it cheaper and with more appealing designs.

There is nothing barring entrance into building EVs. Heck, Foxconn is going to start producing them too.

One must just name the source of that statement and that is Musk, the CEO of Tesla says it will be #1 and the media jumps all over it. It very well maybe true for now until the other manufacturers fill the void with EV's in demand. He will have the production capability but will it really displace the much cheaper Toyota Corolla?
I dont know, it will be interesting, I just dont see people around the world sustaining a $60,000 compact car long term. But what do I know?

I just bought an F150 with that gas tank also. We both know gas tanks that size are not the norm. The Ford trucks are one of the few with an optional gas tank that size.

Not that I have any interest in a pickup truck, EV or otherwise but I think it would have been better with just two doors and a small seat for additional passengers and a longer bed. Even though it has decent towing capacity I get a feeling that 99% of them will be bought and used like a lot of other pickups are today. Not as "work trucks" or for boat or trailer towing, but as urban grocery getters and status symbols.

I also am highly skeptical of their range claims. But I have to say 0-60 in under 4.5 seconds for an 8000 lb monster is crazy !

It will be less if it’s hauling a load or towing.

When reality hits it is going to hit people like a Louisville Slugger! They were saying on Fox business people are putting food and heating oil on credit cards and they want people to buy vehicles with an average of 66K, this is sheer madness.

That’s because they have cards with rewards.

Full disclosure, I use my Apple Card/Apple Pay for almost everything.
