2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV Reveal

Blazer EV SS finally on dealer lots. I could see getting this or the Cadillac OPTIQ once my Blazer EV RS lease is up.

My Blazer EV just got back from the dealer getting the latest software update (not an OTA update…) My 10-80% charge went from 40+ minutes to 34 minutes during my latest test.

Still not great, but a huge upgrade nonetheless.

I wonder why it couldnt be OTA?

6 minutes is a nice bump especially if its consistent.

Whats your average MPKWH?

It’s apparently capable of OTA for most modules, but GM still isn’t doing much of them. The Google Maps, and other apps and their content are constantly updated, just like your smartphone, but not these deep system updates.

Cadillac LYRIQ had a recall for the brake system and GM corrected it with an OTA immediately, so they can do it when they want it seems.

I’ve received a few system OTAs but they don’t seem to have much content.

GM has a new TSB for these Ultium generation EVs basically saying dealers MUST do the “Vehicle Wide Programming” software update upon customer request for free whenever they ask for it.

I’m at 2.7 miles / kWh. I live in Northern Minnesota though, so the severe cold, winter tires and my roof rack have taken a big hit on efficiency.

So now that the 3rd parties have run a battery of tests on a wide group of cars, when the all the advertising gets washed away what do we see when we compare charge speeds with 3-4 fairly close competitors market wise?

Out of spec does a pretty good job measuring a variety of metrics but the one that really matters is miles of range added per minute of charging.

I picked the closest suv/crossovers I could find the mach-e being the sport model is a bit out of line, but likely about the same as the regular mach e which is to say not great.

Telsa and Kia are neck and next delivering almost the same performance swapping leads at 15 and 20 minute.
This is one example that higher voltage does not necessarily translate to better real world charging performance despite all the hype and sales pitches.

This chart assigned the Ford and the Blazer identical colors but we see the ford way down the list and the blazer absolutely dead last delivering a little above half what the class leaders do. I hope GM gets its act together and gets more competitive I want a viable choice.
