2022 Tundra Frame Walk Around

Interesting vid. There are some pretty killer features here. Rear suspension using links instead of leafs, with air ride option, which is a significant feature if you’re DD’ing the truck and also towing heavy. Also, they have room for more hybrid battery, and I wonder if there would have been benefits to making it larger - otherwise there’s a good bit of air beneath the bed behind the battery, it looks like to me (unless that’s up under the rear seat? Also - the battery isn’t being replaced without something coming off the top.

It’s got to be a tight fit under the hood, if you’re even tall enough to reach in. Radiators front, center, left and right, compact engine components, a lot of plumbing. But, so are so many other makes and models today. What they have is pretty dang impressive, though. Interesting to see them go with a fully boxed frame - that presents different NVH challenges as the open channels serve to isolate the cab from rear end and load vibrations.

I have no need to buy one, but I wouldn’t turn it down if it ended up in my driveway. And FWIW, I encourage hybrid tech - it’s sorted out well enough by now. Good video!
 
Internet does megaphone. But supply chain is irrelevant what I am talking about:
1. Position of wastegate is horrible.
2. You have to take down body for not so big of an issue.
3. How that passed testing if they have failures at 300-500mls?

Number 2 is the one I want to know more about.


I wonder then about the accessibility on the new Lexus LX600 and Toyota Sequoia since they have that same power train from what I’ve heard? I don’t think they lift bodies on those vehicles but maybe I’m wrong.

Well, yeah. I am thinking that accessibility on Sequoia is no better than Tundra. Will see.

2021 Lexus IS300 - OEM’s get away from ATF dipstick/fill tube - Ok sad but true. Same with my Jeep.
But now let’s block the fill plug (on the Aisin) with the exhaust system … Other side is wide open and wasted …

Ah, can it be detached? That is not big deal IMO. A lot of cars have those issues. I have to release gearbox mount to get to transfer case fill. Not big deal, I can do it in an hour laying under the car. But this with Tundra borders ridiculousness.

I trust Toyota engineers more than peanut galleries on any Forum.
You obviously have not listened to the arm chair engineers on any "thick vs. thin" thread. My 2018 Silverado should have imploded by now running 0/20W ( as per manual) towing my 5,000 pound trailer up 8,000 foot mountain passes in the summertime at 90plus degrees.

My 2018 Tacoma is already rusting. Granted I didn’t buy it new so I wasn’t able to keep it clean for its first two winters. But that doesn’t change the fact that Toyota uses low grade metal/cheap corrosion protection

Lol. Mine had surface rust ALL OVER the rear axle and pinion hub at 3 months. Finally got sick of it and sprayed the whole thing with black rust oleum, and do that every so often. say what you will, but that’s been part of my camper winterizing strategy, and it seems effective. Every year the underside gets sprayed off, dried, and rattle-canned. The paint seems to have stopped the spread on the fords rear.

I had a Ranger back in the 80’s and the rear bumper started rusting in the first year. I sanded it down and primed it then painted it flat black to go with the red paint color. Originally it was a flat silver. It actually looked better in black.

That’s what I said too. First pick was a new 2021 Ranger but nobody had the spec I wanted. Neither did Chevy. Saw a new Tacoma, go to buy it and it was gone. But this one I have is the same exact spec, only used

My 2014 is actually look really good.

Meanwhile, every bolt on my 2011 GX has to be take off with extreme care so as to not snap them. There are probably 5-6 bolts snapped off under it. The thing didnt even spend the first 10 years of its life in the rust belt.

I had a 1997 Red Ford Ranger. Best little truck ever. **** thing ran like a top until I traded it in 6 years later with 280,000 miles on it.
 
Just read a write up on these. With the new model year price increases (and no added equipment or improvements) the prices on these trucks are all more than the big three. They sell about 30,000 or so units a year. IMHO-The Titan is on death watch.
I own a 2017 that only gets used on long trips, usually pulling a boat. It just rolled over on 30k miles and the warranty will expire in December. So far it has been trouble free, but I preemptively paid Nissan $450 to replace the transmission and transfer case fluids. I don’t know if you can judge them by their sticker price, or at least you couldn’t in normal times because I think I paid $7-8k under the sticker.

If it were totaled tomorrow I would absolutely consider buying another one. It’s for darned sure a better truck that the Chevy I inherited from my dad. I like my Japanese truck made in Mississippi far more than my American truck made in Canada.

Glad you like your Titan. These days trucks sell for MSRP-so yes they would be more expensive. I got over $10,000.00 off the MSRP on my 2018 Silverado-but yea it's far from perfect! I predict probably one more model year and they will be gone. There has been zero rumors of an update or any major redesign. However the Titan is a USA only product now, and rumors of discontinuation of the Titan have been rampant.
