Hi
Is it common to fail the automatic transmission oil cooler on newer Mazda vehicles?
Ex 2018-2023 CX-9 cx-5

No mine wasn’t leaking
But I heard it is a common issue
Not sure worth to use a blanking plate and relocate the oil cooler to behind the front bar

If you hang out on enough Mazda forums, you will see one or two of these from time to time. I wouldnt call it common though.

A transmission shop recommended to delete the factory water cooled transmission oil cooler with a blanking plate and relocate the oil cooler to behind front bumper bar

They are only about $150 brand new, if its got you spooked then it wouldnt cost much to replace it every couple years. What exactly is causing the issue, are they cracking, or corroding?

I dont think you can easily move it as the hoses going to it are for the coolant, the exchanger itself sits on the transmission and is sealed with two o-rings. I dont think are any threaded or barbed connections where you could tap into the transmission fluid flow.

If you're under warranty, leave it as is. Once the warranty is up, spend a few bucks and put a new one on and dont overly worry about it.

So your transmission shop wants to replace a coolant cooled transmission fluid cooler with an air cooled transmission fluid cooler only?
You need to find a new transmission shop, and soon.
