Time to drain/fill the auto trans. Asking for some experience or feedback on proper ATF fluid.

Range Rover calls for ZF Lifeguard 8. I have a 2.5 gal jug of Amsoil OE ATF which carries the following spec on the back: ZF S671 090 255. A quick search suggests that means Lifeguard 6. However, the Amsoil website directs me to this product for the 2020 Evoque.

Before I spend an entire day researching oil specs, I'm hoping somebody can shed some light here. Also hoping to avoid a $240 trip to the dealer for fancy green ZF oil.

Unless you can confirm that the Amsoil fluid meets 8, I would not use it. Try Amsoil's tech line as websites are not always accurate. Otherwise, $240 is inexpensive to what could happen if its the incorrect fluid, heck that's less than your time and effort if you had to drain the Amsoil for whatever reason. Nice vehicle, always liked the Evoques but too small for our use so we always had the big brothers.

Ha! It's a decent little SUV. I actually enjoy driving it, but tiny for sure.

Anyway, I did contact the Amsoil tech support line, and they assured me their product meets the ZF8 requirement. I trust that their fluid is adequate for this car. However, like you said, I'd rather spend money on fancy oil before wasting time repeating the process. I'm not as concerned about damage as I am shift quality being compromised.

You may like it better with the Amsoil product.

In January, I used Redline D6 in my ZF8 transmission. I am just about 15k into it now, and it has performed well. I plan on using it at the next transmission service (50k OCI).

Just go in with the car came with take a trip to the dealership and get yourself that fancy green fluid .

I might. What’s your most compelling reason why I should just do that?
It’s best to stay with an OEM licensed fluid especially during the warranty period. Nothing against AMSOIL and them they make great products. But to be on the safe side especially with transmissions OEM

Yeah, I hear ya on that. I usually feel the same way. Warranty is over for this car though.

The more I read about it, seems like other owners are usually happier with the feel of Amsoil in their 8HP.. transmissions. I guess the long and short of it is that I would want to know if anyone has had negative effects with the Amsoil, which doesn’t seem to be the case very often ever.

Went ahead and serviced it with the Amsoil today. Took 3.5qt to drain/fill out of 7.4 total capacity. Initial reaction is it shifts nice and smooth. Better than before the service, which was overdue.

Solid.

These transmissions aren't that picky on fluid like they want you to think they are.

I have a ZF5 in the family and I use the Maxlife Euro ATF. Shifts great.
