Whaa? Small cars are about 1/2 ton heavier than in the early 90's

They are absolute pigs.

But weight doenst make a car ride smooth.

That's in the tire, Shocks and mostly in the Spring rate.

Basic Physics.

If you ever drove a Renault Alliance or Le CAR you would know that small cars can be very soft riding!

I can say with absolute assurance that the base Jetta S has the smoothest - even floaty - ride
of and Compact to midsize car; we are talking near Buick Roadmaster float. nk!

I do not recommend it though. Ride is smooth, but handling is atrocious; there is no roll control in the rear twist beam.
And the new platform is un- livable with its high sills, front cowl and high decklid with a slit for a rear window.

but if you drive slow like Grandma, you may be O.K.

I like the interior layout - but not material quality.

VW is Toast for selling Å koda Octavia or Seat Leon as a Jetta in the States.
