I've been using a mix of Raybestos Element 3 pads, and Akebono ACTs for my Hondas.

What is the current take on the Element pads available on Rockauto? Should I just go straight Akebono?

Thanks - looking at doing a pad slap on original rotors.

I got a set of E3's couple of years ago but didn't use them. The ears were so tight that the pads would not move when installed in new calipers! Gave up and got OEM pads which slipped right in. YMMV

You can't reuse 6-year old rotors in PA :sneaky:

Get Powerstop coated rotors or the Bosch Quietcast rotors. For the pads, there is nothing wrong with Akebono :)

Rock Auto has 10% off Bosch pads and rotors, in addition to the regular 5% promo codes the always have.

same for me with akebono proact on subaru outback.. had to grind on them quite abit to fit.. not a dealbreaker but it is nice when they fit without needing help.

I wasn't a fan of the E3's I had on my Accord for 15k miles. I actually replaced the fronts early due to excessive pad material transfer to the rotors that caused excessive brake judder.

Other folks love them, but for me, never again.

Is that part of the actual state inspection? Nobody has ever taken them off to check a date... if there's even one stamped on it.

Ditch the E3s. They were my go-to pads and the newer ones are awful.

I’ve actually found the “oem level” pads from Autozone preferable to akebono lately. They have a better feel and equivalent low dust, low noise aspect.

Elements are fine if you’re not in a corrosive area. Their rotors are junk and not even in the same discussion as ebc or brembo. My issue with the pads was the shims were rusted and awful looking after 1 Ohio winter. Like many here, I was drawn in by the flavor of the month and ditched them the following spring. The rotors were warped after 1 trip to Myrtle beach and back.

I was surprised - but they only have 33k on them, and no rust.

Only one rear is noisy - so I'm guessing it seized - I'm wondering if I can just lube and go.

I put the E3 pads on my 2011 F150 a few seasons back and have been super happy so far. Excellent performance and pedal feel but this truck sees very little mileage now so who knows how they will hold up.

Being in the rust belt the only coated rotor I've used that wasn't an absolute eyesore after 2 yrs was ebc. Wagner, raybestos and bosch were all rusted over their coatings. Ebc takes the salt and heat from all my trips to the east coast and Myrtle Beach. Cost wise they are cheaper than the auto parts store brands but twice as much as rock auto cheapies.

Yea don't...

I put front and rear Element 3 hybrid pads on my WRX along with the Element 3 coated rotors. They stop really good, not gonna deny that, but they're VERY noisy. That and the rotors around the hats already started staining after cleaning the wheels once. Might get a winter out of them, and I don't even drive it in the salt much.

Did the Wagner, Raybestos, and Bosch rotors still come off without a hammer? If so, then they are still good :)

lol no hammer. After I initially pound the bejesus out of the oems to get them off, I use a bit of anti seize and clean the hub faces yearly. That’s a lie. When I pull the rotors off to clean the hubs I usually just slap new rotors on. I hate vibrations of any sort and get bored. My wife thinks I’m crazy.
