Auto trans AWD (no CVT), 2.4 N/A engine with multiport injection. Any thoughts/experience w this vehicle. Just had a family member buy one. OCI maybe every 5,000 miles w 0-20 sound right? I am not a Fiat/ Mopar fan so flame away.

No CVT and no DI are two big pluses in my book,

although earlier versions had transmission issues.

It's a similar setup to the Journey I had with the 2.4. It was a very durable low wearing engine. It's a bit under powered if you ask me but I have a lead foot. It was in an accident that totaled it so I no longer have it but I was happy with that engine. I could do 13,000km OCI's and still had lots of life left in the oil (Almost 10K miles) One of my UOA's is posted here: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/attachments/usergals/2017/12/full-22880-16874-report_2a.png

Change the transmission fluid every 30-50K miles and use the proper fluid.

A family member has one of the first year versions of the Renegade with the 2.4L and the 9 speed. Theirs is FWD. She has about 80k miles on it (drives alot for work). No major issues other than some weird thing where the key gets stuck in the ignition.

The transmission (at least in the early model) is a little clunky but I feel like most regular folks wouldn't notice. It returns pretty decent MPG numbers.

I've been changing the oil with 0w20 every 6k miles.

Doesn't it have a maintenance minder? What does the manual say?

Had the Jeep for a long weekend and did 1,000 of mixed driving. Thought it was a good little car. Not something I'd want to own long term but it was good for what it was.

We looked at a Renegade Trailhawk; it's a nice little SUV. In the end we decided to keep the Wrangler and bought a CPO X1, but not because of any shortcomings of the Renegade.

Has a OLM. Manual says something to the effect of 3500 miles under severe service and not more than 10,000 miles for OCI.

Thank you for this info. Longer OCI than I would do but it appears to be fine w SS Amsoil 5-20. I have the 0-20 SS.

I had a jeep rental with the 2.4 and 8 spd. I got used to it but it isnt fast. Granted what i rented was a bit bigger than the renegade so maybe its no issue. I always liked the look of the renegade!

My daughter has a leased ‘17 Limited 2.4L with approx 12K miles & avg 26 MPGs. She loves it with the exception of no Homelink option and heavy oil usage. Google it and you'll find tons of posts on the 2.4L engine being an oil burner.
Apparently, dealers will just monitor the usage with an oil dye and then determine it's within guidelines. We top it off every month with 5W20.

Only lease a FCA product . No homelink in today's market you got to be kidding ? Heavy oil use ? How can you say you love it ? No wonders car company's can continue to sell less than acceptable vehicles and get away with it .

We had one for a year. 2017 Renegade Trailhawk, with almost every option you could get, so some of my observations don't apply to all Renegades. We had the 4 cylinder NA multiair engine. Here are some thoughts...

Plus+:
AMAZING AWD capability...just wow!
cute
decent suspension, rode nice (firm yet compliant)
good gauges
good infotainment
fun easter eggs
multiair technology is COOL! (if you don't know what this is, look it up, total geek city!)
roomy for the size
easy to get in and out of
steering wheel heater was HOT!
fog lights were nice

Negatives -:
leather seats were junk and not comfy
premium stereo (beats) was anything but
automatically turned on seat heater, heated wheel, and rear wiper...often not appreciated!
fuel mileage was not that great (our new Alfa Stelvio is beating it by 2 mpg)
too small for us
felt cheap
noisy on the highway
wind noise
too many on the road
underpowered and loud on acceleration
engine didn't sound good
premium headlights not that great
paint was cheap and chipped easy
keyless go wasn't that reliable
seat heaters were slow - my hands would already be on fire when I started to get a warm sensation in the buns
not fun to drive - slow and just not responsive
#1 complaint...the transmission was a HUNK. It had a 9 speed auto. Didn't use 1st gear, always started in second. It didn't use 9th gear. If you forced a shift into 9th in manual mode, the gas mileage dropped (at ANY speed). It was never in the right gear, and took an eternity to downshift when you wanted to accelerate. It often didn't know what gear it should be in...especially when doing a rolling stop and you wanted to take off quickly, it would totally choke sometimes literally for a full second before it chose a gear to get you moving.

If you aren't into engaging driving, and don't mind having the same car as a bunch of other folks, I think it could be a real decent car for the money. In a few years, they will be great cars to pick up for your teen driver, as they are slow, very sure footed, cheap, and seemed reliable (although ownership was short).

Additionally we had ours until about 15K miles, with one oil change in there around the 8K mark. We never had to add a drop of oil.

The Renegade is not a real Jeep, it's a badge engineered and restyled Fiat 500X. Neither vehicle is manufactured in North America (some of them are even manufactured in China) and neither vehicle has a good reputation. IMO, the only descent Fiat is the 124 which is really a Mazda Miata with different styling, a Fiat engine, and is manufactured in Japan.

Neither does a 2018 Nissan Altima. It's awful transmission programming somehow manages to make a Dodge Caliber more pleasant to drive...

Too late now, and not a big deal, but one can disable this in one of the settings/setup menus. I haven't had a Renegade, but many other FCA vehicles, and the dash/infotainment setup is typically all the same. I believe by default the heated wheel/seats come on automatically at temps of 39 or below. My wife likes this. I do not, so I disable it when I drive.
