I have found our transmission shifts gears very deliberately, almost like a manual if you will. I know my wife misses the quicker shifts and the better from a light acceleration like her old car did but her 3.5 Olds Intrigue was a 4 sp and this Impala is a 6.

I have read on here about getting them reflashed/programmed but I am not sure what is all involved or what that necessarily improves?
I have driven the car numerous times myself and although it doesn't bother me so much, I know what she is talking about.

Anyone know if a reflash/reprogram will cure this?

I would say the majority of the transmission complaints, especially in rental vehicles, are related to how the transmission adaptively learns driver behavior. When you have so many different people driving the car so many different ways I wouldn't be surprised if it's confused. Or maybe that's just the GM fanboy in my talking.

I suppose that is a possibility, but there are only so many different ways it can drive/shift gears isn't there?

I am hoping, once the warmer weather gets here and we get some hwy miles on it, things will improve but that might be silly of me thinking that?

I think I will look into getting/seeing if any updates are available for this car or if there are any outstanding ones that might have been missed due to it be a prior rental.

My wife is lucky working in the office of GM. Even though she is only a contract employee, she is entitled to have her car serviced, while under warranty, at Mills Motors here in Oshawa.
They come to her place of employment, pick up and return the car all while she is working. Supposedly many take advantage of this for oil changes and the like.
I will ask her if anyone at work has the ability to look up updates or other tech info, which I am guessing someone does, hopefully.
