D1 ESP 5w40 CJ-4 version made in 2015. This seemed like a good base for adding the Renewable Lubricants booster pak as it does not have any Moly. My target was 6% to equal 500 PPM of sB however I came out lower than expected @ 385 ppm. The baseline VOA was a test blend at 13.2%. BP, I measure with a graduated cylinder for accuracy.

This CJ-4 D1 has Group IV/V and a virgin oxidation of ~ 20 without booster pak addition.

Oil has 11,000 miles and was in service for 18 months.
The manganese is from Amalgamated TDR-FL, It is always added at 9.5 mls/gallon of fuel (400:1)

Truck stats:
-2017 CCLB ATX 2.8 Duramax w/ 56K miles.

-3"/1.5" lift with Eibach coil overs and add-a-leaf with Eibachs in the rear. SPC UCAs, Diff Drop, Sway Bar Relocation bracket and prothane end links.
-Boost Auto Tow Mirrors
-Titan 36 Gallon Fuel Tank
-Fab Fours Steel Rear Bumper
-BFG Ko2s
-Stock engine and updated tune from GM recall N192273630

I was forced to get the updated tune from GM because California would not renew my registration without it. With the original tune, the fuel burned very clean and soot was very low but there was fuel dilution. This new tune has better throttle response, no fuel dilution but significantly higher soot%. The oil pressure is also lower which is weird, I guess it's running hotter or GM unloaded the VD Oil Pump in the new tune.

Average Fuel Economy is 23 MPG combined and up to 26 MPGs on the Freeway.

To identify the cause of the higher soot I stopped using Costco B5 as bio does burn dirtier. This UOA only had Diesel #2, Renewable Diesel or D2/RD Blends.

What would Lake Speed Jr. say about this UOA? I wonder...

Thank you for your detail. I almost bought a new Colorado 2.8 Duramax back then. $25k in 2018 dollars. How do you like your Canyon ?
You should have gotten it for 25k.

Its been solid. I’ve always used HD oil in it, never Dexos 2. The best truck for towing light loads. I towed a 5500 lb trailer 800 miles and got 20 MPGs doing it. It would be fantastic for a landscaping business or other contractor that regularly towed small trailers with power equipment and tools around.

I was thinking of moving up to a 1500 though, something that can tow more and has better interior room. The 2.8 and 3.0 Duramax have similar fuel economy but the 3.0 can do more truck stuff better.

Maybe take a look at the 3rd gen Ecodiesel Ram, from 2019 to 2023 model years. Lots of room inside, especially in the back, and very nice material finishes as well as comfortable.

Our '22 EcoD has been excellent, very good FE average and tows our 5000 lbs boat and trailer with no issues. I cross-shopped the 3.0 Duramax twins (Sierra and Silverado) and while they were both great, the price difference made the Ram the better choice. I did like the inline 6 Duramax diesel though, very smooooth.
