Truck is still liking Mobil 1 5w-30. This is the third OCI with it (forgot to sample one year). Fram Ultra has been changed each time. All seems normal to me. What do you all think?
Pretty even mix of city/hwy I generally only drive it if I need to do truck stuff and bring the fam. Probably 1k of those miles were towing trailers that ranged from a 6x12 enclosed to a 22ft equipment trailer with my tractor on it.Looks fine for a Hemi to me.
What kind of driving do you do? I assume infrequent, but when it does get driven, what's it like?
Yeah, alone they look pretty high, but I don't know if this is normal for this engine. OP, you might seek out other UOAs for this engine type and see if copper in the 20s is normal.I'd assume the copper readings are normal for this engine.
There was another sample of 5w-20 before the one that is shown and Iron was higher on it as well. In the owners manuals for 2016 trucks they recommend 5w-20 for hemi's in 1500's and 5w-30 for hemi's in 2500's that alone told me 5w-30 is preferred for trucks that are doing work. One day I may even play with 0w-40, but I still have a couple years of 5w-30 in the stash. These test results would indicate favoring the visc. bump but the single sample is not really a great example alone. I understand the desire to stick with a 30 though & I'd do the same as well. I'd assume the copper readings are normal for this engine. Looks like the Mobil 1 was just getting started. Thanks
From what I've read the copper is normal in Hemi's.Yeah, alone they look pretty high, but I don't know if this is normal for this engine. OP, you might seek out other UOAs for this engine type and see if copper in the 20s is normal.
Good information... Thanks. Yeah, the 2500 preference speaks volumes. Good choice. There was another sample of 5w-20 before the one that is shown and Iron was higher on it as well. Yeah what I infer from that is 0w-40 is the ideal oil for a Hemi..So that's probably a 7,000 lb 2500 towing w/a 7,000 lbs trailer = 14k GCWR They want a 5w-30. Then they state 0w-40 in the 6.4's. 6.4's can tow more weight so they give it a bump in visc. consequently? Interesting
