I'm starting to regret buying my daughter her 2016 Honda civic coupe 1.5t.
In the first month of ownership the 3rd taillight cover fell down, seems glue used to hold it to the rear window melted in the heat. Took to dealer installed a new one.
After a couple months the TPMS light comes on several times a week and air pressure is fine. Taken to dealer no idea what it is.

Lately as it has approached 30k miles several times a week it won't start. Get in and push red start button and nothing happens but some red flashing of the start button and sometimes the dash beeps several times. Had her tow it to the dealer and they tested battery and it was 97 percent so it's fine. They sell her a 9 dollar key fob battery and send her on her way. I know that was not the problem for two reasons. 1 change all fob battery yearly and 2 it still won't start from time to time.
Lastly she stopped by the house yesterday to drop the dog off from walking in the park and got back in the car to leave and it made a God awful dieseling sound when she started it. I yelled to turn it off and she said why and I said didn't you hear that? And she said Yeah I does that from time to time when it's warm and she had taken it to the dealer where she went to college and they said it was normal.
I will be taking to the dealer today and I won't leaving until these things are addressed.

Good luck with the dealer. When (if?) that approach fails, replace the battery regardless of what the dealer’s test says. There have been quite a few reports on Honda forums of a weak battery causing all manner of electric malfunctions, warning lights and the like.

I assume you’ve checked the oil level? This engine has a deserved reputation for fuel dilution to the point crankcase levels rise to an excessive level. If the dieseling start-up noise isn’t an electrical issue the oil level is at least worth checking.

The growling sound at start-up is a valve in the CVT, there's a TSB on it, needs to be replaced if noisey, honda say's the noise is not a problem, the trans will function normally. I took mine in and the dealer could not repeat it, very intermittent...it does fall under the 60k warranty. I've heard it only a few times cause from inside the car at start-up all the warning chimes are going off.

@32k I don't have any TPMS, starting or tail lite issues...I did have a frt. rt. marker lite bulb go out..TSB on that too..replaced it myself (100mi. to dealer)

In terms of Key Fob Batteries, I am replacing the battery in 1 or 2 fobs close to twice/yr & the other close to 1-1.5 yrs.

Also, try another dealer for the diesel noise. NO it's not normal.

I've had Honda's and even if the car was OK, the dealers were not.

Honda QC has been on a constant nose dive
Years ago I said so long to Honda
After all of these years they never found a way to isolate road noise and make a quiet car.
Good luck to you!

I'm not entirely surprised. The 2016 Civic had numerous electrical issues. About a month after our first full delivery of Civics (we took on 18 Civics, if I'm remembering right), Honda put a "Stop Sale" on the Civics until we updated the software on all the Civics as the LED instrument panel was prone to failure. Got that fixed and literally the next day, another Stop Sale was issued as they were dealing with the engine manufacturing defect. Most of the Civics seem fine, but I agree with the above, Honda QC is falling behind.

Road noise IS TERRIBLE in this car. I hardly ever see this car let alone drive it. The Audi A4 is so quiet it makes the civic sound like all 4 wheel bearings are going out at the same time.

I bought my oldest daughter a 2002 civic brand new for her high school graduation. When she sold it 10 years later with 275k
It had performed flawlessly. Brakes, struts, belts and one clutch where the only thing outside of oil changes and regular maintenance that were ever done to the car.

I hope they fix all the problems asap.

There is a golden rule, which is also applicable to Japanese cars.

Never buy first year model

Every generation Civic has its own problems. For instance, 8th gens have steering rack, paint cracking, engine block cracking (R18 engines from 2006-2009), SI's had 3rd gear popping issues.

9th gen Civics have less common problems, that's because it is an updated version of 8th gen rather than a completely new platform.

However, 10th gen Civics are completely new which also has a new engine/drivetrain never used before. I think it is still too early to buy latest gen Civic, especially the 1.5T.

+1

I've applied that theory to pretty much any vehicle model. The trouble with newer cars is they seem to get redesigned every 3 years now.
