I believe the Schaeffers EP thickens up at operating temperatures.

Wonder how much that would affect an oil's viscosity at 100c.

i did refill with schaeffers oil 9000 5w-40 instead of amsoil, just wanted to see how the numbers would compare between the two oil
no towing

Yes, this oil has very low (if any) moly. My two UOAs for this same oil had 12 and 14 ppm moly. And most of the moly in mine was probably residual from the previous oil in the sump.

Understood. I'm just surprised the moly additive has very little moly in it... OP said he added moly additive.

Nope, all oil thins as temperature increases

Ah, I typed a wrong choice of words, then. :-)

"Schaeffer's Moly EP makes an oil's vis@100c higher than what it would be without the EP".

- From what I read on this forum about a couple years back, if memory serves.

Except the VIs thicken the oil as it heats up other wise the oil would not be "using a 5W- 30 as an example" 30 a when hot.

You've lost me here.

@OVERKILL - unfog my brain please?

Gotcha, OK, that makes more sense.

VII's increase the base oil's viscosity over what it would be without the VII's, but the oil still thins with heat, it just thins less due to the action of the VII. Similarly, PPD's are used to depress wax crystal formation when the oil cools in bases that aren't PAO, so that while the oil is still thickening as the temperature drops, it doesn't turn into a solid goop until at a significantly lower temperature.
