2016 CX-5 Under Valve Cover

Looks great! My wife's 2016 CX-5 with 150k is getting due for a valve cover gasket and I hope it is in this good of shape. From what I can tell looking through the fill port it probably will be.

She burned oil and I've done a piston soak, a few OCI's with VRP, some HPL EC30 with Mobil1 EP, and now HPL Premium Plus 5W-30. Oil consumption has dropped from 1qt every 2k miles to nearly nothing.

These motors are great if taken care of. Fuel dilution due to GDI plus short trips and potential coking of the low tension oil rings are the only things that seem to negatively impact them.

got the gasket on order for the 2013. Seeping a bit from the back passenger side corner. Must be a common issue. only 90k miles on ours.

While you had it torn down did you get a look at the intake valves. Just curious with how clean the rest of the motor looks.
Not this time. I'm sure the intake gaskets will need replacing in short order so will take pics when that occurs.

That's why I've started to use about 3oz of ARX just about every oil change. Rings seem to be a major issue in almost every car and I'm hoping it will aid with that. Sure doesn't seem to be hurting anything.

I've got VRP in it now, just to try it out.

Got this exact job lined up for my wife‘a 18’ 3 touring with a bit more mileage, going to do the valve cover and VVT solenoid gaskets along with the both belts at the same time: just waiting on parts.

Ironic, my 1290 KTM has oil jets too and the cams have looked great both times I’ve been in there, but somehow their 790/890 didn’t get so lucky.

At least on my 16', there is VERY limited access to the belt tensioner. Make sure to have a tool that can get in there. I have a Gearwrench serpentine tool and it wouldn't do it. A long, fixed 17mm wrench w/ offset worked best for me.
I replaced the main belt last year. Water pump belt was still OK.

Might as well replace the tensioner if you are in there. Mine was starting to leak.

I’ve watched a few videos to know what I’m walking into and saw what you’re referencing, my offset 17mm is waiting. I’ll inspect the tensioner while I’m down there.
