2016 CX-5 Under Valve Cover

~130K miles, 2.5L. First time having the cover off. Was starting to leak on the back side. New gasket went in with no issue. Have always used good synthetic oils, sometimes with AutoRX. Chain was tight. Drain intervals were around 5-7K miles each but doing 5k from now on.

There seems to be a "Z" pattern on the cam lobes. Is this normal? UOAs haven't shown any high Fe.

Similar marks on the cam lobes of my 2011 Hyundai. I posted pics here and nobody knew what they were for sure. Suggested they were marks left from a surface grinder.

Correct. Grinding marks. The fact that they still show is indicative of low wear. Excellent. I love those oil supply tubes over the cams.

That's what I'm hoping they are. Couldn't feel them with a fingernail, so they are very shallow.

While you had it torn down did you get a look at the intake valves. Just curious with how clean the rest of the motor looks.

Cool. I have 126k on my 2016 6 and I have a new gasket waiting to go on. I just haven't done it yet. I'm hoping mine looks like that. I had a couple of years of going a year on oil.
