I'm really bummed the 4th Gen Focus isn't coming to the USA. The reviews out of Europe are stellar. The new Focus ST will probably be amazing. Nearly 300 HP(?), lighter, even better chassis, much bigger back seat, much higher quality interior. It looks great too.

And most importantly, it has a real automatic transmission, not that stupid DCT [censored]

Unfortunately, Ford destroyed the Focus reputation in America by allowing the trouble-prone DCT to soldier on for 6 years without fixing it.....If they fixed it in 2013 or 2014 the Focus would sell very well because it handles far better than most of it's rivals.

I may be late for this topic but the Focus is the best car in the segment in terms of price / performance / comfort.

I got a brand new 2018 Ford Focus Titanium Sedan 8 months ago which has the 2.0 engine with PowerShift dual-clutch. It has been giving me 28/38 fuel-economy instead of the 24/34 as advertised. Handling is simply awesome. Ride quality is impressive in both highway and city. Nice interior with the leather seats and ambient lighting. Great suspension and brakes and is a very well-built car in general.

The 1.0 EcoBoost in the SE is more responsive and fun to drive but I opted for the Titanium for more comfort and style features. People complain about the transmission because they think the dual-clutch should act like a conventional automatic. As a person who knows stick, the PowerShift is just mind-blowing to me. It shifts fast and smooth. It has two clutches so ultimately the transmission has different characteristics to a conventional automatic if you put that in mind the transmission is just awesome.

I have test drove different cars in the same segment before making the purchase. I think the only compact car on par with the Ford Focus if you want comfort in a good price is the Nissan Sentra. Mazda 3 and Honda Civic are also good but they are far more expensive. Hyundai Elantra and Chevy Cruze are not that good for the price.

Yeah, American drivers aren't that bright when it comes to dual clutch automatics, they see the word automatic and think they can drive it just like a torque converter automatic. Just google to see all kinds of videos of people riding the brake and creeping along in traffic just burning up their clutches lol. "Look at my car, telling me the transmission is overheating ... what a POS car!!!" Too [censored] funny. Guess what happens if you ride the clutch to creep along in traffic? You burn it up. Imagine that.

The DCT in the 17 Focus rental I had for few weeks was a far cry from "mind-blowing". Maybe Ford revised programming for the 18 model year, but the one I had not only slipped excessively in slow moving situations, like parking lots, but I could feel the clutch slip during gear shifts. Upshifts and downshifts were very lazy feeling, just like conventional automatics, except that feeling was accomplished by excessive clutch slip.

On the other hand, I drove a VW DSG In a Jetta TDI, and that transmission had very "crisp" and instant feeling gear changes, both up and down. It would still slip the clutches when your foot was off the brake pedal, buy the gas pedal wasn't yet pressed, but that transmission uses wet clutches, which are better suited for this kind of application.
